January-February Plot Round-up!

What Happened in January?

The New Year rang in with a NYE Movie Marathon run by John Crichton, where people watched Die Hard, A Christmas Story, Hook, and When Harry Met Sally. With the appropriate morning-after hangovers.

The first new arrival of the month was Katniss Everdeen, a familiar face to some people on the ship - even those who aren't from her world. Sadly, she won't recognize them. Johanna Mason, also from Katniss’ world, appears and is also just as confused. On a scooter crash came Radical Edward — fortunately, she didn't have to go to Sickbay. Later, an Archduke by the name of Charlemagne Bolivar arrives, and is particularly thrilled to have been kidnapped to a bar. Amadahy Lavellan is yanked away from a hunt; a Jaeger by the name of Dimo arrives next, as well as a Jedi called Luke Skywalker and a demigod named Raiden.

Smaller events aboard included Trip having a movie night, showing the classic Casablanca; Chris tries some magic, and gets annoying and unfortunate results; The Doctor returns from having been missing for over a week, and goes looking for River Song; Merlin makes a clock, and serenades flowers; Ro goes to find out about getting her adult body back; Agatha makes something go boom... again, and despite just getting here, Raiden gets himself into trouble. Finally, Worf makes a "heartfelt" announcement that there will be a wedding between Annie Cresta and Finnick Odair, which is to take place in February.

But hey, that's not all! If you'd like to share the shenanigans your characters got up to in January, link us to your posts and threads! Go ahead and toot your own horn, that CR really was awesome and we all want to know about it. :)

February 2nd: The Enterprise arrives at Pacifica, and remains there for two weeks
February 6th: Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta get married (events on Pacifica as well as in Ten Forward lounge)
February 8th and 9th: Holiday Events for Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday
February 12th through 14th: Valentine's Day events!
February 20th: Party post goes up to resolve lingering effects of February's plots
February 29th: Classes continue on the Enterprise with a new school post, and it's Leap Day!

After a relatively uneventful winter season, the Enterprise is finally making port again—at the beautiful ocean planet of Pacifica! It's the perfect place to hold an event, such as the wedding of two passengers, Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta. Scientists and botanists on board will enjoy many strange and beautiful new forms of plantlife, one of which has some interesting effects on people's moods ... not that anyone realizes this until some plants have been brought aboard for study, some weeks after the ship has left the planet. It's also a month of festivals and holidays, a chance to make a new love connection (or a new friendship), and for new passengers it's a trial by fire as strange things seem to happen one right after another all month long...

Pacifica, the "jewel of the galaxy", is a beautiful ocean planet renowned for its warm blue waters and fine white beaches. Some even say it rivals Risa as the ideal place for a holiday, a special event, or a secret rendezvous. The Enterprise's purpose there is peaceful, while the Captain tends to some diplomatic matters and the scientists aboard do a little research into the local flora, so passengers are invited to disembark, enjoy the beaches, visit the Submersible Research Institute and other "floating cities", and meet some of the locals (perhaps even swimming with some of the planet's aquatic life).

Read More about Pacifica at Memory Beta.

While there, botanist and current head of the biology lab, Keiko O'Brien is excited to disembark and collect some samples. There is a beautiful and unusual plant growing all over the land where passengers of the Enterprise have disembarked, and when in bloom it sends off a pollen that appears to affect the way passengers are acting... everyone just goes 'hippy' and has to tell everyone they're just plain super, just because they are. There is an odd compulsion to pick flowers, hand them out to others, and talk about peace, love, and good vibes. Angry characters are super chill; peaceful characters are really confused, but with hugs and love suddenly running amok with everyone, at least nobody gets hurt.

Things will get really interesting when Keiko, unaware that the sudden increase of peace and happiness is caused by the blooming plants, brings a few on board to study, and the pollen starts making its way through the Enterprise's filtration systems. Suddenly people who haven't even been on the planet start feeling the love, too! The effects of the love plant will last until February 20th, at which point a Lab log will be posted and all botanists, scientists, and other interested parties will be invited to tag and research the effects of the plant — with freedom to experiment on other technicians and volunteers, by their own arrangement.

During this love fest, Amy Pond will be hosting another Blind Dating Event! Like last year's event, an OOC sign-ups post will go up independent of this post, players will be randomly paired up by dice roll to other characters looking for similar interactions, and these can be relationships, friendships, or hook-ups. A party-style post will go up on February 12th, giving the whole weekend for dating shenanigans.

Additionally, February 8th and 9th are the Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday, respectively. Then again on February 29th, it will be one of our rare archaic Leap Days. Players can look forward to some interesting surprises on these days, courtesy of Q. What surprises are those? You'll have to refresh the main comm on the mornings of to find out...

**Additional small plots may crop up throughout the month for extra fun, so keep your eyes open for event posts in the OOC comm as they happen. Mods and volunteers have been busily at work thinking up new things to bring to Ten Forward.**

New Holodeck Programs:
The holodecks are neat, but what can we do with them? one might ask. Every month we'll provide 3 new holodeck scenarios for players to use if they're stuck for ideas. This month's programs are:

Carnival of Venice: The Carnevale di Venezia in Italy dates back to 1296 C.E. Its objective was fun and merrymaking, where the mask dominated as a means to briefly ignore any signs of belonging to social class, gender, or religion. Watch or take part in numerous events around ancient piazzas and the city's main waterways; private parties and masquerade balls happen behind the scenes, inside Venice's grand noble palaces, or perhaps you would rather do the Flight of the Angel — a tradition that began with a Turkish acrobat in mid-1500s, where you, an artist in flesh and bone, hang from a metal cable suspended in air, to make your descent from the top of St. Mark's Bell Tower to the Doge's Palace. At any rate, it's the perfect place to party for a while. [permanently added to library]

(American) Football Field: It's football season. Grab some friends and drag them out onto a virtual football field for a game. Cross an item off your bucket list by scoring the winning touchdown at the Superbowl. Or grouse in confusion at the oblong ball, which is so not a REAL football. Make someone teach you the rules of this strange game, or say screw it and wrestle, push, and be bad sportsmen as you take the rules into your own hands... [permanently added to library]

Tell a Fairy Tale Day: February 26th is Tell a Fairy Tale Day, and in this Enterprise twist enter an empty holodeck room, begin your tale, and watch as the room comes to life around you. Scenes begin and end at your whim; characters appear to your specifications; items are created, changed, and morphed to fit your needs. Tell a tale to a friend, "choose your own adventure", or get lost for a few hours in a world completely created by the best writer of them all... you. [permanently added to library]
