Edea Kramer | Final Fantasy VIII | 01

Ending up in another universe entirely, and so suddenly — it's a little too much for even Edea to take, right now. Perhaps she had hoped that her life might be quiet for a while, after Ultimecia was defeated and things slowly began to go back to normal, or what passed for normal. She and Cid would settle down, rebuild the orphanage, and have a very quiet retreat from... well, from everything, at least for a while. Perhaps her children might visit, once every so often, but she did not expect anyone else would care to. Not after Ultimecia had used her body and her face and her voice to set the world at war.

Instead, though, she's here, on this ship, in space. Spaceflight certainly isn't out of the ordinary, where she comes from, but to have advanced so far as to be able to travel to other planets, to the ends of the galaxy and back — it's fascinating, or it will be, when she has the presence of mind to think about it. Right now, she wants to be somewhere quiet and calming where she can gather her thoughts and not have to worry about anything else.

One of the people in the yellow and black uniforms directs her to the arboretum, and immediately once she crosses through the door she notices the change in the atmosphere. Compared to the bland neutrality of the ship's corridors or the bustle and chatter of the lounge area where she'd initially arrived, there's a sense of peace about this place that puts her instantly at ease. A little of the tension relaxes from the set of her shoulders, and she takes her time walking across the grassy lawn, curiously inspecting the various plant specimens without touching anything. Some are utterly alien to her, but a few she recognizes easily. There's a rosebush there, with a profusion of huge, peach-colored blooms; she ducks her head to breathe in the flowers' fragrance, long black hair falling forward over one shoulder.
