Test Drive #7 - Ten Forward and Captain's Yacht

Option 01. Ten Forward: The first thing you see is a bar. A large, lively bar filled with many different faces and many different smells, sights and sounds. This is Ten Forward, the Enterprise's off-duty lounge; feel free to get acquainted with your fellow travelers and try to find somebody who's in charge: this is your new home now, after all...

Option 02. The Captain's Yacht: Oooh, you sneaky stowaway! You've found yourself in a very exclusive part of the ship: Captain Picard's personal craft, used for short jaunts when a shuttle just won't do. (One must retain some decorum, after all.) It may not be as large as the Enterprise itself, but there are sure to be some surprises aboard once people start snooping.

[OOC: The Captain's Yacht is located at the very base of the Enterprise's saucer portion, so if you put someone in there you can also play them trying to get back to somewhere they know!]

Harry smiled and nodded to her. "Might be fun to wander around." He glanced around, and then back at her, mouthing the word 'Trekkie' at her. He had to tease her, it was in his job description.

Dorks of the Universe(s), unite! Or something.

"Sounds about right, yeah. The replicator might be weird to get used to, but not terrible. We can experiment and see what it can spit out." He winked at her teasingly.

"I suppose so." He extended a hand and gripped one of hers. "We'll just have to see what happens, roomie."

"I've got no idea what sort of power source they have here. Maybe it interacted with the summoning agent?" Talking shop with an absolute stranger was odd, but somehow refreshing.

"Maybe whatever it was didn't get through your wards, but went around them. Like, it... followed a different wavelength then the one the wards protected against?"

realizing where they must be, Harry sighed. "It may have been science, instead of magic."

Inari clasped his hand, feeling both the tingle of power that ran across her skin as their hands met, and the echo of Harry's amusement. She also felt an answering surge of happiness bubble up inside herself, and she smiled as she tried to keep it from spilling over through their connection. For some reason, her sensitivity got dialed up a notch or two when she touched people. Or things.

"I guess we will."

Julian was happy to answer questions, so long as people refrained from attacking him.

"The Federation is an alliance of over one hundred member worlds, including Earth. We operate a exploratory, scientific, and diplomatic fleet called Starfleet, amd we're currently on its flagship. Near a world called Risa, actually." He looks sympathetic to the man's concerns, at least. After all, he's out of place too. "It's a lot to take in, I realize. I happen to be lucky in that I've only been displaced a few years."

He folds his hands together, resting them on the bartop in front of him as he continues. "The being responsible for bringing us all here is called Q. He's a trickster and a troublemaker, but he happens to be very powerful, able to manipulate space and time."

Harry's eyebrows went up as he felt that surge, and he nodded, smiling a little, and his cheeks ever so slightly red as he felt that warmth, and a touch of happiness.

"You're a remarkable woman, Inari." He had a feeling this was going to be an interesting time.

"You bet it will," she said, adding, "Nerf herder," under her breath. She smiled, and punched him lightly in the shoulder. "You wanna go back to Ten Forward, or just see where our wizard feet will take us?"

"Tch..." Inari scoffed, blushing as she released his hand. "I would say you haven't seen my temper yet, but that's not quite true, is it?" She ran her fingers through the hair at the back of her head, in reference to the time she'd whacked him with his own blasting rod. Lucky for both of them, wizards could take a licking.

"I know I have a lot to learn yet, but I'm a quick study."

Harry smirked, then nodded, exaggeratedly rubbing his shoulder. "You've gotten stronger." Then he considered her words.

"Well, we're technically under a quarantine for now, so we'll have to wait until after that to wander... at least officially." His grin turned naughty-ish. "So maybe Ten Forward for now, and a look at a ship's schematic?" He arched an eyebrow at her, asking her opinion. "What do you think, partner?"

"Heh. There was that. I didn't see much, though, not with the braining." His voice was lightly teasing. This was fun, a little. Wizards were good at taking knocks and lickings and pokings, and having fun, despite it.

"Then we can start by exchanging more news."

He sat back, thought, then rose. "Want some tea?"

"Peeta?"

It's a stupid question, really, because of course it's Peeta. Everyone all over Panem's seen Peeta Mellark all over their television screens for the past year, when it hasn't been Katniss Everdeen. Everyone in Panem knows that boy-next-door face. Besides, Finnick's met the guy, spent as much time as possible during training being as nice as he could to Peeta and Katniss, no matter how cold Katniss was to him, because that's the plan. He needs them as allies. Needs to protect them, see them through the arena however he can, for the sake of the rebellion and of Panem.

But Peeta has a wild look in his eyes, one Finnick knows too well, one he's seen in his mirror. One he's seen on Annie's face too many nights when she wakes up screaming and he has to run to her because nothing can calm her down but being held. Finnick knows how disorienting it is, how dangerous it is, that sense of not knowing where you are, when you are, whether you're safe or back in the arena or wherever it is they really are, he's not sure.

So when Finnick approaches Peeta, it's with his hands held out in appeasement, the golden bracelet he'd gotten from Haymitch still shining on his wrist.

"Peeta? Where's Katniss?"

Because that's the single most important question right now.

"The lounge of a starship. I got no more clue what planet we're above than you do. Most of the folk you see about, they were kidnapped from where and when they were, just like you. Except some of the folk in the candy-color-coded tight uniforms. About half of them belong here, and the ones wearing those suits that were kidnapped still sort of understand whatever the hell Starfleet is."

"Sure," she said, "that would be nice." She hadn't pegged Harry for a tea drinker, but then, she didn't really know him well enough to know what he liked, besides Coke. Or 'dead pigs and cows' on pizza. But she supposed that might soon change.

"I guess you've figured out that kicking the family curse didn't make me completely vanilla. It just...gave some of the other flavors a chance to surface." Less Raith, more...Inari.

"Might as well," she said, nodding. "If noting else, we can try to familiarize ourselves with our surroundings, so we have an idea of where we'd like to go. Or how we can make ourselves useful." Read: get themselves back our of any trouble they were bound to get into.

"Well, in that case, I guess I'd better stake my claim," she said, popping into the room across the hall, and dropping off her jacket. The nice thing about a spaceship was, she didn't have to worry about UV rays, the windows were designed to protect against worse than that. "Now what?"
fishermansweater: (So common as money)

The appropriate response to Haymitch's glare is, of course, to flash him another insolent smile, one that shows as many teeth as possible, and then cast a lazily appraising look around the lounge they've found themselves in. So that, of course, is what Finnick does: for the onlookers, for any cameras that may be hidden here, for any spies who may be watching them.

No hint that they're revolutionaries, that Finnick expected to be miraculously plucked from the arena, but in a completely different way, from a completely different time, that this fact makes him wonder if this is some scheme from the Capitol or if something's been accelerated in the plans. Are Katniss and Peeta and Mags and Johanna here too? If they are, he's seen no sign of them. Just Haymitch.

Which means they're going to have to do some delicate dancing around the real truth of issues here. Because there's a lot more at stake here than whether or not Haymitch can continue to try drowning his demons, or whether Finnick has some new third-rate Capitol socialite on his arm and in his bed for her secrets and Annie's safety.

"It is a pity," Finnick says, carefully arranging his features into another pretense of thought. He frowns. "I'd definitely been hoping to meet some ladies. Take them for a drink. Especially your girl on fire."

Alex grinned at her and nodded. "Well, we wan wander back to ten forward, if you like? Check out a book or learn more about this time from the computer, or, well, whatever, as long as we stay within the temporary quarantine area." He nodded to her.

Harry grinned. "Sounds good. Maybe we can learn a little something about the here and now." Then he chuckled. "And practice not overloading circuits while we're at it." He needed the practice more than her, he knew, but still.

Harry turned to the replicator, and carefully edged toward it, holding his concentration. "Computer, green tea, hot. Two cups please."

"Working." The voice was feminine, but very mechanical and Harry nodded as two cups swirled into existence. He carefully took them, hen retreated to sit with he, putting one cup in front of her.

"There we go." He nodded as she spoke.

"Well, yes, I did. And I am curious. Exactly what has been peeking its head out?"

Excuse him, Julian. Haymitch is just going to take a couple sips of his drink while he attempts to make some form of sense from that. With each answer he got from the man, this was sounding less and less like some trick or plot of the Capitol. He doubted there was anyone with an imagination quite this crazy, not to mention detailed, who could come up with something like this just to get him to slip up and let his guard down.

"So...what happened to Panem?"

From the way the other man spoke it sounded like this was very very far in his future, so perhaps the man could explain just what happened to the world he knew. Who knew, it might explain why he had been pulled here to this ship. The knowledge could also be useful beyond that possibly as well, he'd just have to wait and see what he could learn.

"Panem? I don't know any nation by that name." He looks completely baffled. "What continent is it on? I presume Earth...though that is a bit of an ethnocentric assumption, I do apologize for that." Maybe that would explain it, if he was from a colony world.

Though really, he hoped they'd know enough Latin still to not name their country 'bread'. That sounded fairly ridiculous.

[personal profile] nowinners 2015-01-02 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That earned a surprised look and a couple of raised eyebrows. "North America."

Was it possible the Capitol had been overthrown and over time they had changed the name? Perhaps. He could only hope that whatever had happened had been for the better. Though to judge by what had been said, it just might have been. Though he's only got one man's word for that right now. It could be worse and it just isn't obvious to certain people. Such a thing wouldn't be anything new to him unfortunately.

Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games, option 1 please!

[personal profile] stillplaying 2015-01-02 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
There have been explanations. Stories and interpretations provided to her by the others trapped in confinement with her. Most she's scoffed at, scowled at anyone who dare approached her and clutched her bow tighter in her hands. She's not stupid. She's done this before, been trapped in a game, used by those that might have claimed to have nothing but good intentions at heart. Do what's necessary for the sake of Panem.

Kill whomever's necessary for your own survival.

She's done it once and she won't hesitate to do it again. Because she's not where she's supposed to be. She's not in Panem, not in District 12. Home in a place slowly rebuilding itself, in a place that seems as alien to her as familiar sometimes. But there's the outdoors there. Greasy Sae and her little granddaughter who still come by to check on her. There doesn't seem to be any of that, here.

Katniss stays in the corner that she's claimed as her own since wandering into this room. It's safer with her back to the wall. No one can sneak up and surprise her. Quietly, she watches everyone that comes and goes. It's clear she doesn't want to be here. Or that she won't hesitate to shoot if someone gets too close.

"There's never been a Panem in North America--we simply call it North America now, since the United Earth Government came about a few hundred years ago. We'd certainly not call it 'bread'. That's what 'panem' translates to in Latin. There's a rather famous phrase about it, actually."

Julian does catch himself rambling every so-often, and now is definitely one of those times. He manages to look a little embarrassed, at least.

"I digress. It could be that you've found yourself in an entirely divergent reality, those are surprisingly well-documented."

"Summoning agent?" He'd watched Magnus work and read a few spell books to know the basics of a summoning but those spells were for summoning demons, not people. Which was worrying enough without considering the fact that someone had somehow gotten through Magnus' wards.

"Not mine, the High Warlock's wards." Saying that aloud somehow made the thought worse. Someone stronger than Magnus. Taking a slow breath, Alec reminds himself that he has to stay calm. It could just be different wavelengths and not someone who could hurt Magnus.

"Science? Can Mundanes really drag a person from one place to another with some kind of technology?"
