TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

She hadn't had much hope of a familiar face, let alone a good friend. Of course she was a bit more free with her attention. Peggy settled into her seat and angled slightly toward Howard.

"If by miss you mean that I haven't been asked to commit treason or save the world, then yes." But she was smiling when she said it so Howard could rest assured it was Peggy being Peggy and nothing bad. She followed his gaze, understanding full well how this was a culture shock for him. "As I am fully and modestly dressed,I think we're safe in saying you're not dreaming."

It's more like, not that Howard knows that, Alec's seen him before in another reality. He's only skim visited Howard's version of worlds and so is fuzzier on the details, but he knows major people when he sees them.

"They never are." Alec sighed somewhat overly dramatically before grinning. "Sure. I'd love to help. I'm very big on helping - though if it's good help is debatable."

"Dublin's okay. It's a bit too big for me, I'll admit. But I grew up in a small town and small city. I spent most of my time growing up in the town where my mom grew up and the rest in Tara on the Hill where my dad lives. They're not divorced - it was just considered safer for me and my brothers to live in Blackthorn," Trever said.

Then, because why not?

"Do you want to get a horrible non-alcoholic drink with me?"

Edwin sniffed at the mention of replicators. He would have been perfectly fine not knowing where and how he got his mug of tea but now that he does it's difficult to even look at it without wincing. "I'll adapt," he says carefully, "but it does distress me that the art of tea making has gone away in the future. There is just something so calming about boiling the kettle to the right tempature and then wanting for the leaves to steep. "

Edwin blinks at the woman and suddenly feels a pang of sympathy for her. "Madam if you can put up with Howard Stark on a daily basis without going completely insane I tip my hat to you. It is the rare person who can stand to be in the same room with him for more than ten minutes without wanting to punch him."

He sips his tea thoughtfully. "I had to acquire the skill over several years myself even with all the good he has done for me and my wife."

While Edwin has not personally met Steve Rogers,he has heard enough of Howard Stark's stories and seen enough newsreels to recognize him when he turns on his bar stool to look the speaker in the eye. "Indeed she is Captain," he says smoothly, "fierce and loyal to a fault. I can see why you cared for her so much."

Edwin stands and takes his mug of tea over to where Steve is sitting holding out his free hand. "Edwin Jarvis," he says, '"it is an honor to meet you in personal Captain Rogers."

Edwin takes the mug and sips from it with a raised eyebrow. "That is a stunning development indeed," he says, "it's almost like people here don't want to kill each other," He manages a smile. "I am glad they are seeing your value Miss Carter. You are a woman who deserves only the best in life be it through your work or other means."

Edwin looks up from his mug of tea and regards the young woman thoughtfully, "Oh," he asks trying not to sound hopeful, "is she no longer here?"

Kitty listened curiously eating her food every now and again when she realized it was there. The wolf was hungry, very hungry but she couldn’t look away from the man in front of her. He was so very different than her and she wondered if he could teach her a little bit more about being a werewolf. She couldn’t say she wanted another packed or anything like that after her last encounter with one but she was a lost pup who hadn’t been taught to hunt in fear that she would leave the pack. Of course, in the end she did leave but she was forced away. She ran.

There was a soft sigh as he finished, her eyes glancing down at the stake for a long moment before eating more. It was a submissive gesture, looking away and she did it without realizing it. How long did she think she could last alone anyway? It wasn’t as if she could easily trust again.

Her eyes flicked up at him watching him for a moment before she spoke. “Some things I know are close to that. There are small differences. I have to change once a month as well but I don’t control when it happens.” She always related it to her period. “I don’t think I can have kids of course I’ve never thought about that before anyway.” She wasn’t sure she wanted kids or that she’s want to bring a little werewolf into the world. It was a hard thing to live with though perhaps not as hard if it comes from birth.

He was something that Kitty hadn’t ever seen before and she was hesitant to ask for help. Except that she was alone, on a spaceship without any other wolves or a forest to run through. It was lonely and she knew that it might eventually drive her mad. She looked at him evenly, her human side more present than her wolf.

“I want to trust you.” Kitty’s words were straight forward but there was doubt in her tone. She had been hurt so many times before.

"Most young or new Weres can't really control the monthly change. I'm only now just getting to the point where I could change my cycle, but at this point I don't see the point in the extra effort. New moon or full moon doesn't make much of a difference; I still need a specific night off a month. Holding it back even one or two nights can get to the point of making work impossible, so I'd need to take time off, and well-- Residents don't get the time."

Isaac smiles at her, and at the statement. He can understand that. "It's hard, isn't it? I want to trust you too, but strange place, no pack... It's hard to feel secure enough to trust."

Kitty put down her fork and knife studying Isaac closely. "Let's just say I have bad memories of my last pack and I don't think I'll want to be under someone else control again." She hated and loved every moment of it because that's what the alpha did. She had always been infatuated with him feeling the need to be a good pup but she wanted to be Kitty too. She couldn't handle the abuse.

She looked away defiantly not wanting to say more. She felt as if she had already told him to much, maybe because the scar hasn't fully healed yet. She smiled her best friend, she missed her show knowing that it wouldn't really work on a spaceship and now she missed the forest. To add to that, one of those three were never coming back.

"I'm not really sure what to do here. I guess the first step is finding a safe place to change." Kitty already felt the wolf pulling at her senses. She wanted to hunt and she knew that her change would come in a little less than a week.

Steve probably wasn't supposed to hear that comment but he couldn't help but notice when the names Carter and Stark were mentioned. It probably wasn't the ones he knew but it was possible when both were mentioned in the same sentiment.

"I think both of them are here, actually. At least one Stark is." He hadn't seen Tony yet but that didn't mean he hadn't been brought here and was trying to sneak into the Engineering department.

She smiled and gestured to a seat near him before taking it. "I don't know how much of my value has been identified yet, I'm just pleased that I haven't been automatically overlooked simply for being a woman." And she was a hard woman to over look, so they had been really working at it in the S.R.R.

"I'm surprised to see you here, I thought those content in their lives would remain there. How are you finding it so far?"

Edwin turns around at the sound of that voice and frowns slightly. While he never got the chance to see Steve Rogers during the war he saw enough newsreels to recognize the man. Though he remembered Captain Rogers being a little bit taller. "Oh. I haven't seen Miss Carter yet. I do hope she and Howard are staying out of trouble."

Huh... this is the first person who had some connection to the world - or worlds - that Steve knew that hadn't acted like he was disappointed that he wasn't over six feet tall. Maybe he was wrong about the man being from Peggy's reality. Maybe he'd seem Steve in the newsreels with his world's Captain America. "There's no such thing as staying out of trouble for those two but I haven't heard anything bad." The yet goes unspoken. "She should be around soon."

Emma was slightly startled at the response, but she looked just as determined as she watched her son. "But, you have the heart of the truest believer. If that can't fight off the darkness, I don't know what will. I'm your mother, and I will stand by your side no matter what."

"It is fighting the darkness. I can feel it. But there's still no guarantee it will win. I don't want to hurt you if it does fail." He's just as stubborn, wanting to keeping her safe. But at least he wasn't running away. He wanted to be close to his family even if he had to keep his distance as a precaution.

"Well, maybe if we ask them really nicely, they'll let you have a stove and a kettle. Ooh, I hear there is something called a holodeck? Hologram technology. We could hologram you a kettle?" He didn't know how real the hologram might be, or what a hologram was per say, but he really wanted to find out. In truth, he felt like a kid in a toy shop.

And he had his choice of the toys.

"Yeaaaaa, you and Peg would hate it here without real tea."

"It must have been....well, not peaceful," she says, because his family sounds quite lively. "A little easier, living somewhere quieter."

She nods. "But only if they have non-terrible non-alcoholic drinks. They have lemonade and frozen cocoa in the future, right?"

"Holographic tea isn't any better," Jarvis scolded Howard gently but firmly, "at least this tea looks like tea and tastes like tea. Anything else would be like drinking air."

"Good I do worry about her," Edwin admits, "Danger is her middle name after all." Standing up he walks over and offers his hand. "Edwin Jarvis. I never got the chance to meet you in person but I have certainly heard enough about you to feel as though I have met you."

"To be honest since you came into my life I have been far from content," he admits, "I find myself worrying about you and Mr. Stark and so when Q made me the offer I found myself curious enough to accept. And thus far it has been an interesting experience."

"I believe so. I hope so. If there is a lack of lemonade in this place, I will really have to do something."

He gives her a half bow, gesturing for her to go before him.

"Mr. Jarvis you make it sound as though I drive you to distraction." The smirk was all in good humor, she knew full well he was hopelessly in love with his wife and she rather liked that about him. But this..did he really agree to leave things behind to look after her and Howard? She was touched, no beyond that she was moved. "I, I don't know what to say. I thank you for such loyalty and care. I only wish it didn't take you from home to do so."
