TEST DRIVE #3 - Alien Bazaar/Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Alien planet, marketplace: So you're new to this whole space travel thing. The ship is cool and all, but there are hundreds of alien worlds out there. You want to explore. To see what the universe REALLY looks like.

Well, here's your chance! Your first stop is this lovely indoor marketplace, which looks kind of like a mall. There are stalls one after the other as far as the eye can see, and they sell all kinds of things: food, clothes, trinkets, animals, fabrics, jewelry, perfumes, books, etc etc. Some things look human, easy to recognize; other things look very alien. There are two levels, and constant chatter as people hawk their wares and discuss prices.

Do you want to explore? Poke at the weird shops? Buy a gift for a new friend? Flirt with someone at the food court? Maybe you see a pickpocket, and must run to the aid of the victim. Maybe there's some other villainy afoot. After all, a crowded marketplace is a good place for villains to lurk, causing trouble. Whether you're a hero or just an unassuming traveler, there proves to be some adventure for you on this planet.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

"Quark." Dukat sat down next to him, rather surprised but if it was a choice between Quark and Guinan he'd take Quark every time. That and he was pretty sure the little troll still owed him a case of Cardassian Ale.

"Do you have any idea just how hard it is to run things on Terok Nor from a Federation ship?" It was bad enough he could see the Occupation winding down. Central Command was pressuring him to keep the Bajorans under control by any means necessary, the Detapa Council wanted to leave and he certainly couldn't fix the situation from here.

"You don't happen to have a bottle of Bajoran springwine that just happened to be transported with you?"

WELL HELLO THERE

Quark jumped when the cardassian spoke, whirling around quickly to face... Gul Dukat? What was he doing here? Not that Quark had any idea what he was doing here either but-

"Federation ship? I thought the aesthetic looked familiar..." the ferengi commented, trying to appear unphased by Dukat's presence. He sat back down slowly, heavy brows wrinkling even further.

'Run Terok Nor'? Dukat hadn't been in charge of Deep Space Nine for a very long time now... Were the rumors true? The ones that said he'd gone completely off the deep end after the death of his daughter?

"I wish. Though I doubt this place's barkeep would appreciate me cutting into his business like that. Not that I wouldn't do it anyway for you, sir," Quark replied smoothly. Best to keep on a cardassian's good side, especially one like Dukat, crazy or not.

The sir was a good touch. Keep it up Quark. No one else treats him with any respect here. To that end, Dukat turned around and glared as his escorts--a security officer in gold watching him like he was going to run away with Federation secrets.

"If it couldn't get any worse, I'm being followed around like a criminal. " The Cardassian raised his voice to address his friend in gold. "Maybe you could get a friend for Quark here. I would hate to have him feel left out." And then caught the eye of a waiter and ordered a glass of kanar.

"We've been kidnapped by the Federation. Or rather, we've been kidnapped by Q, but the Federation has a much better ring to it don't you think?"

Whoops sorry let this get away from me ;;;

"If it's any comfort, I know the feeling," Quark remarks, referring to the treatment of ferengis in general on Deep Space Nine. He grimaces up at the guard and hurries to add, "Ah, no need for that. How about we just share yours?"

Kidnapped by Q.... that was almost starting to make sense of everything. Almost.

"Either way, I'm sensing I won't be getting back to my bar anytime soon," he sighs, fingering the stem of a glass despondently.

No worries! So excited that you reserved though!!

"Your bar, my desk. I can only imagine what's going on in Terok Nor right now without me to run it. Chaos. I'm afraid your bar is probably among the casualties. You can bill the Federation." Dukat almost growled, " I intend to. " Since charging Q with destroying any chance the Cardassians had to successfully occupy Bajor wasn't really going to amount to anything. The Federation was the next best bet.

Quark has to stop himself before wryly assuring Dukat that Deep Space Nine has 'somehow' managed to keep itself running perfectly fine without his leadership.

"Charge the federation? Good luck. That never seems to pan out. They always find some way of weaseling out of it," he comments instead.

"The Federation will be too worried about peaceful relations with Cardassia. And I assure you, kidnapping the Prefect of Bajor, especially in these troubling times, does not send good messages."
norefunds: (thinking about it)

"They are obsessed with keeping the peace, aren't they?" Quark mutters, which is usually fine, except when it interferes with his business.

"And unfortunately, no one is going to care about one misplaced bartender. Keep me in mind when they let you go, won't you?"
