TEST DRIVE #2 - The Holodeck/Ten Forward

Where were you a minute ago? Well, you aren't there anymore. Instead, you're standing in a very large, dark room lined with yellow. There are doors at either end of it.

Here's where things get a little choose your own adventure-y. You could:

1: Approach a console filled with buttons, located a few feet away. Press one, and it'll let you out of the room. Travel down a long hallway and you'll be in Ten Forward, the Enterprises' entertainment lounge. Have a drink, mingle and try to figure out why you're here.

OR

2: Maybe you just muttered some vague request under your breath. Maybe you wished aloud you were somewhere else. Or for help? If you did, might be in a fire station. Muttered something about killing whoever dumped you here? Surprise - you're in a slasher movie!

Though they're confusing, these visions feel about as real as they can be. And guess what - other people can experience those fantasies with you, as if they too were really there. How ever will you escape? Or do you want to?

[OOC: Welcome to the Holodeck! If you choose this option, whatever your character chooses to say out loud will cause a virtual reality program to load and play. While your character feels as if what they're experiencing and seeing is quite real, they're purely living through the latest and best in what he Enterprise has to offer in entertainment. Make sure to detail what your character's fantasy is, so that those threading with them will know how to react.

Open til next month's test drive!]

"Three hundred?" Gaila looks startled. "Man, that'd be a pain. I've just got like ninety and that's hard enough. But I don't think anyone expects you to catch up with evrything."

Billy laughs. "Maybe not, but I consider it a challenge---and I'd like to at least understand the tools here on a theoretical level before I start using them," he says. "If they'll let me start using them."

He props himself up against the table and turns to face her more fully. "Were you planning something similar?"

"I...kinda can't go back home." Reasons she's wearing long-sleeves and pants: the cuts on her limbs are still healing from being in an exploding ship.

"And I've been trained as a coder since I was a kid and it's what...I know. So if I'm to be able to keep on doing that I've gotta catch up."

"I'm sorry," Billy says, frowning. That she doesn't have a home to return to...it's terrible. She has the rest of her life to catch up here, because she must.

"I'm more of a mechanic than a coder, but if you ever want to try to figure this out together, I could attempt to help?"

"Oh that's really sweet. Wouldn't say no. I'm not great with Earth's history of coding, though, or computer tech. I learnt on my planet. I mean, to help you back.

Anyway, I'm Gaila."

"That would be perfect. I think we could learn a lot," Billy says, answering with a somber smile and a nod. He's not sure what greeting gesture is appropriate, so he sticks to that.

"And I'm Billy. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Gaila."

"Nice to meet you, too.

Soooooooo what are you planning to do with all the technology? And what's your focus?"
morphitudinous: (Down)

"I want to see what I can do about going home," he whispers, still mindful that that's impossible for her. "My friends really need me there. So I'll be working on communications technology while I try to reach them, perhaps with some teleportation tech as well."

She frowns at that, and seems to study her hot chocolate for a moment.

"So, you're from three hundred years ago...and Earth I'm guessing? Now certain warp-capabilities are theoretically able to go back in time but that's a ship, not a signal. And then you'd have to connect it to whatever tech you had back then...

Hm."
morphitudinous: (Seriously oozing)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2014-05-27 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Billy feels like something heavy has just fallen over him. That...is indeed a problem.

"I'll have to do more research. If we can come forward in time, we can go back---and a signal? May be difficult to send, but not impossible. It can't be."

Right?

"It can be theoretically possible? But sometimes things are functionally impossible.

And then you have to make do," she adds, not unkindly, before taking a sip of her hot chocolate.
morphitudinous: (invention)

Billy nods quietly to himself, staring at his hands once more. He considers the possibility that he'll never see most of his friends again, swallows---then pushes it out of his mind, because feeling sorrow is unproductive when he's not certain there's no way out yet.

He decides instead to investigate the faint whiff of something on her table. "What beverage did you order?"
writes_with_digital_ink: (always optimistic)

"Hot chocolate, with enough chilli pepper to be beautiful."

Nom, nom, nom.
morphitudinous: (looking up)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2014-05-31 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"...chili pepper? I can see that enhancing the taste," he says, torn between skepticism and sincere desire to try it. "Can they mix in any other flavor? Or synthesize it, I assume?"
