TEST DRIVE #2 - The Holodeck/Ten Forward

Where were you a minute ago? Well, you aren't there anymore. Instead, you're standing in a very large, dark room lined with yellow. There are doors at either end of it.

Here's where things get a little choose your own adventure-y. You could:



1: Approach a console filled with buttons, located a few feet away. Press one, and it'll let you out of the room. Travel down a long hallway and you'll be in Ten Forward, the Enterprises' entertainment lounge. Have a drink, mingle and try to figure out why you're here.

OR

2: Maybe you just muttered some vague request under your breath. Maybe you wished aloud you were somewhere else. Or for help? If you did, might be in a fire station. Muttered something about killing whoever dumped you here? Surprise - you're in a slasher movie!

Though they're confusing, these visions feel about as real as they can be. And guess what - other people can experience those fantasies with you, as if they too were really there. How ever will you escape? Or do you want to?

[OOC: Welcome to the Holodeck! If you choose this option, whatever your character chooses to say out loud will cause a virtual reality program to load and play. While your character feels as if what they're experiencing and seeing is quite real, they're purely living through the latest and best in what he Enterprise has to offer in entertainment. Make sure to detail what your character's fantasy is, so that those threading with them will know how to react.

"So you are an American."

"Probably."

[abyssum_invocat]

"Is Maine no longer part of America?"

[goldencobra]

"No. Maine is in America. But just because I live there, doesn't make me American." Just like big words don't make you an alien. Duh!

[abyssum_invocat]

"Actually it does. If you were born there you have automatic citizenship. And I doubt you were born anywhere else," she says.

[goldencobra]

"I wasn't born in Maine. No one in Storybrooke was born there. Shows how much you know."

[abyssum_invocat]

"So which story character are you, then?" she asks, fully expecting it to be unfamiliar to her. It's probably unfamiliar to everyone, given she's still half sure he's delusional.

[goldencobra]

"I'm not part of any story. Unless you count the adopted son of Rumplestiltskin or the grandson of Snow White and Prince Charming." Hows that for unfamiliar!

[abyssum_invocat]

"They don't have adopted children in the stories. And I didn't say you weren't born in Maine, I said I doubted you were born outside of America."

[goldencobra]

"That's why I said wasn't part of any story. And I'm in only person in Storybrooke born anywhere in America."

[abyssum_invocat]

"Then you are American," she says, rolling her eyes. "All of that and I still think you're delusional."

[goldencobra]

"Just because you're born in a place doesn't mean you're that type of person. What if my parents aren't American? And I'm not delusional." He paused. "Even if I was, why would it matter to you? You don't have to talk to me."

[abyssum_invocat]

"Doesn't matter with American citizenship," she says, with a strange amount of knowledge on this subject. It's a long story. "If you're born on American soil or in territorial waters you're a citizen."

She sighs at him. "You're right, I don't have to. But I find you entertaining, and I don't have to think you're sane to keep talking to you. Many people aren't, and I still talk to them."

"How do you know that anyway if you're from Berlin?" He gives a frown. "I don't want to be your entertainment. Go find someone else and tell them they're insane." He rolls his eyes excessively and starts walking away.

[abyssum_invocat]

"Wait," she says, a hand darting out to grab his arm--and revealing her telekinesis can make her hover, too, given her foot is seven or so inches above the floor, balancing her as she reaches. There are a dozen impulses that play out over her face before she bites her lip and sinks down to stand on her own.

"I didn't mean it like that." She never means it like that, but she doesn't know how else to say what she means. Entertainment, to her, is not like a petulant bored child with an inanimate toy; it's too rare for that and the ability to make her forget about everything that keeps her awake at night is too precious. "Understand these stories are all just stories where I'm from. We know they're not real, because magic isn't real for us. Not aside from stage magic, and that's just manipulation."

[goldencobra]

"They were just stories for me too, once. But then I got the truth thrust in my face." Looks around for a moment before sighing. "Let's talk somewhere else then. But promise you won't tell anyone?" The idea of telling someone else how he feels scares him but at the same time he would be so liberating to talk about this to someone not part of the curse. And he doesn't want to do it out in the open. It's his private feelings. Stuff he hadn't even written down. "Is there somewhere we can be alone and uninterrupted?"

"I'm good at keeping secrets." Much, much better than most people know, because Sinthia carries their thoughts around in her head and never, never tells them.

She knows people much better than they think--she's good at duplicity, too. She's had to be for a long time now, almost her whole life. "We can go to my room. It's private."

[goldencobra]

"Lead the way."

[abyssum_invocat]

She does lead the way, and it's a relatively short trip to her room, where there is a separate but shared living area, and then a more private bedroom--which is where they end up. Sinthia sits crosslegged on the bed, with room for Henry to join her.

"I'll know if anyone comes close."

[goldencobra]

He follows her to the room and then the bedroom, taking off his shoes before sitting on the bed and placing his backpack beside him on the floor. He's quiet for a moment, then continues the train of thought he had back in Ten Forward.

"About a year ago, my dad gave me that book and told me everything in it was real. I didn't want to believe him but after a few...other events had occurred, it seemed the most plausible explanation. I didn't want it to be true because it meant he wasn't the man I thought he was. But it is." He shrugs, no smile or grin on his face now. It's a sad and unfair topic.

"Nobody is who they seem to be at first," she says, serious. She learned the same lesson, painfully, with her own father.

"But they're not here now, are they? Did they come in with you?"

[goldencobra]

"If he was here, he wouldn't be going by the name Rumplestiltskin, that's for sure." It made him wonder if he wanted his father here or not. But despite everything, the answer was probably yes.

"He'd go by Mr. Gold."
