Test Drive #7 - Ten Forward and Captain's Yacht

Option 01. Ten Forward: The first thing you see is a bar. A large, lively bar filled with many different faces and many different smells, sights and sounds. This is Ten Forward, the Enterprise's off-duty lounge; feel free to get acquainted with your fellow travelers and try to find somebody who's in charge: this is your new home now, after all...





Option 02. The Captain's Yacht: Oooh, you sneaky stowaway! You've found yourself in a very exclusive part of the ship: Captain Picard's personal craft, used for short jaunts when a shuttle just won't do. (One must retain some decorum, after all.) It may not be as large as the Enterprise itself, but there are sure to be some surprises aboard once people start snooping.


[OOC: The Captain's Yacht is located at the very base of the Enterprise's saucer portion, so if you put someone in there you can also play them trying to get back to somewhere they know!]

"Yeah? Nothing wrong with that. My mom chose my name too." His dad had vanished into the night, long ago. But he didn't talk about that, so, he nodded. "Parents can be funny."

He smiled at her, and chuckled, flushing a little. "I don't know about that, but here goes." And his voice did get a touch deeper, taking on more assurance as he spoke. "A force known as Q, a quintessential and multimind being has whisked you and others to a new place and time. The place is the U.S.S. Enterprise, and the time is the 24th Century. Q is a quirky being, and tends to do what he wants, and not stick around to explain it. The crew of the Enterprise, trying to accommodate people, will assign you guest quarters for as long as you are here."

Alex waved a hand around. "The Enterprise is a ship that belongs to Starfleet the exploratory and peacekeeping arm of the Federation. The Federation if a grouping of hundreds of member worlds, and hundreds of different races all working together for peace and prosperity. Here, on the ship, you can relax, or, soon, get a job. You'll have to g through a short quarantine fro medical purposes, but after that, all nonessential areas of the ship will be open to you."

Mavis smiled as she listened to the speech, watching Alex become more animated as he went along. And no wonder--there was some pretty fascinating information in that spiel.

"Hundreds of different races, all working together for peace and prosperity," she echoed. "My dad would love that!" Oh, he might be a bit perturbed at the idea of space travel, and being so far from his precious castle in Transylvania, but she was pretty sure he'd get over it.

She grinned. "That's pretty amazing."

"It's an amazing place, and the Enterprise itself is a good place." He nodded to her. "There will be a medical quarantine for a week or two, which means you can come here, your temporary quarters, and sickbay and nowhere else, but then after that, you get the run of the ship."

He nodded to her. "We'll need to get you checked in, and then I can show you to temporary quarters." He wouldn't mind escorting a beautiful lady around. He started gathering up his things.

"Oh, good," she said, "I was worried I might be in trouble for popping in where I wasn't supposed to be." She smiled, and pushed her chair back from the table, preparing to follow his lead. "You're not worried that I'll give you cooties, or anything, right?"

Alex rose and offered her a hand. "Come on." He led the way out of Ten Forward and toward the turbolift to take them to Sickbay. "So what year was it where you were before here? And were you enjoying it?"

He flashed her a grin as they waited for the lift.

She took his hand, swinging it a little as they walked. It was nice to know that some things never changed, no matter what universe you wound up in. "It was 2014," she said, "Almost 2015. And, yes, I suppose I was enjoying it--though it's been kind of a strange year."

She smiled back at him, and asked, "What about you?"

Alex smiled as they walked and she swung his hand. It had been a long time for him since anyone had done that. It was, well, nice.

"Yeah? Wow. So, long after my time. But long before now, too, even so." He grinned at her. "What was strange about it?"

"Yeah. I was helping to retrofit a new Starfighter when the life support malfunctioned. I was having fun until I lost consciousness, anyway. Woke up here."

"It's kind of hard to explain," said Mavis, "Just...a lot of unexpected, life changing experiences."

She frowned when she heard what had happened to Alex. "I'm glad you're okay. Did you find out what went wrong, so you can fix it, if you get the chance?"

[1st_starfighter]

Alex arched an eyebrow, then nodded. "And you're okay now?" She sounded nice, and he hoped it hadn't been too crazy.

"Yeah. Spent most of the first week there and here, working on it. One of the engineers loved the chance to get her hands on it, so, well, we worked it out, and fixed it." Alex grinned. "Now I've been studying tech here against tech back home, trying to see if they will match up or not."

"Yeah," she said, "I'm okay--as long as I don't get too much sun." Maybe she'd share more, after they'd had a chance to get to know each other. Or rather, after he'd had a chance to get to know her. She smiled, and bobbed her head. There never seemed to be a problem Alex couldn't fix--even if the fixing sent him on some interesting adventures.

[1st_starfighter]

Alex arched an eyebrow again and smiled. The lift opened and he stepped in, leading her, hand still in hers. "Good."

"Sickbay." He smiled as the lift sank toward Sickbay's level. "Sickbay is a little overwhelming, but I'll stick around, and then show you to the guest quarters." he smiled as the doors opened again.

"Thanks," she said, giving his hand a little squeeze. "I'm glad..." She sighed, and shrugged her shoulders. "Well, it's nice to have a friendly face around. You know?"

He squeezed her hand in turn. Alex smiled. "I'll gladly be your friendly face, if you want."

He nodded as he led the way to sickbay. Soon a medic came forward, and there was poking and prodding, and though Alex had to stay outside the exam room, he was there to wave and smile when she looked out. And when the exam was done, he was there to greet her again.

Mavis smiled when she saw Alex still waiting, and bounced happily back to his side. It was tempting to use magic to do so, but she didn't want to freak him out. "So, what is there to do around here? What do you do when you're not building starfighters?"

[1st_starfighter]

"Here? Study, dance, use the holodeck, and occasionally visit planets the ship comes into orbit of." He led the way out, one hand reclaiming her hand.

"Once I've shown you the temporary quarters, I can show you the holodeck, too, if you like?"

[mavy_wavy]

"Yes!" she said. She didn't know what a holodeck was, but she was eager to find out. "Have you visited a lot of other planets already? What's it like--what were they like?" She'd been in a starfighter once, but just long enough to help save Earth--or at least California--from being blown up. The closest she'd been to visiting other worlds was the castle in her Dreams.

"Just one, Risa. It' a resort planet. I'm not sure if we're still in orbit, but we can find out." he grinned at her. Alex thought her enthusiasm was cute, really.

Alex smiled at her, and nodded as he led the way out. "And we can go to the holodeck and see more planets. As if we were there."

"Really, the whole planet?" How did people decide which part of the planet to visit, if they only had a short time to stay? "Wow." She smiled, and shook her head. "This is going to be interesting."

[1st_starfighter]

"Really. The whole thing. they are, ah, very friendly." He flushed. He'd barely escaped without gaining way too much exposure to their friendliness for his liking.

"I bet it will be."

He led the way, and soon, they were at the guest quarters. "Here we go." He pointed out one room at the end. "That's where I'm staying, in one of the bedrooms in that one."

"Oh...that kind of resort," Mavis guessed, judging by the look on Alex' face. She smirked, thinking Lorna and the other, other Alex might have enjoyed a place like that. She wondered what Match would have thought of it, and decided that they probably would have spent the entire vacation holed up in their room, ignoring the rest of the planet.

She smiled, making a note of where this Alex' room was, so that she could find him again, once they parted ways. "And this is me, over here?"

Alex chuckled and blushed more, then poked her lightly. He quickly caught her words. "Well, you can take the one opposite me, or any of the other rooms not taken. It's up to you."

he nodded to her. "Doesn't look like too many are, yet."

[mavy_wavy]

"Well, in that case, I guess I'd better stake my claim," she said, popping into the room across the hall, and dropping off her jacket. The nice thing about a spaceship was, she didn't have to worry about UV rays, the windows were designed to protect against worse than that. "Now what?"

Alex grinned at her and nodded. "Well, we wan wander back to ten forward, if you like? Check out a book or learn more about this time from the computer, or, well, whatever, as long as we stay within the temporary quarantine area." He nodded to her.
