TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

Then Trunks would take it upon himself to deal with it. Insane cosmic power or no, not much could take a hit from a pissed off Super Saiyan.

He's not pitying--he knows that looks are decieving, and a disability doesn't necessarily mean that he would like anyone to think of him that way. Trunks knew he wouldn't. And one of the strongest people he ever knew had been missing an arm.

"Nice to meet you too, Danny." He smiles. "Would be nice if it were under better circumstances though."

Well save some for the rest of them, Trunks. Danny might not have cosmic power working for him, but he's smacked his brother around a time or two. He's had the broken noses to prove it. Snatching people out of their lives is a little rude, he deserves to get his face smacked.

He can tell by his tone that he isn't. It---sounds different when someone is pitying you. The way their voice pitches or drops. The soft intake of breath in surprise. Stammering sometimes too, as they falter over whatever it is they are trying to get out.

He can hear the guy's smile, small but genuine. "Yeah, you're telling me. I guess I'm just lucky I didn't go toppling over something the second I got here."

Danny turns his head, focusing on the sounds outside of conversation around them. "So---are we in like a bar or something?"

"I guess. This is the first bar I've ever been in." He doesn't have much of a frame of reference, though. He's never been in a bar--his mother likes to have a drink, sometimes, but they generally don't leave the house, and with the attacks...well, he's pretty sure everyone's priorities lie elsewhere. "There's a lot of people in here, that's for sure. Most of them are part of the crew, I think."

"Oh," he says. "Well, they're not bad places to go to if you don't mind a crowd." Not that he's really comfortable in places like that. He likes a quiet dinner or a movie. Though that quiet dinner is really only something he gets when he's not with his family for it.

You can't separate loud from his family. It's impossible. Especially not with his brother Larry.

"Yeah, I can hear that. Sounds like a crowded night at this place I like to visit."
