TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.
contocricket: (Wait what?)

Archie stared across the table at Killian before pointing out the window. "That's actual space. We're in actual space."

Forgive him. That was not what he'd expected to hear at all. He'd been hoping at the worst he'd been transported to some hyper-trendy bar. Or was dreaming. Either worked at this point.

"Aye, so it would seem. I wasn't aware such a thing was possible, but apparently it is."

It's an adjustment, he knows it is. He had to make the same adjustment.
contocricket: (A little surprised)

"I've seen science fiction before, but...this is...I..."

Wow. He had no words for this. It was unsettling and somehow exciting all at the same time.
seekingcrocodile: (not just a ship)

[personal profile] seekingcrocodile 2015-03-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
He doesn't know what science fiction is. It was just an impossibility to him that he could end up in space until he did.

"Aye, and we're a few hundred years in the future as well, or so I've heard."
contocricket: (A little surprised)

[personal profile] contocricket 2015-03-25 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Time travel and space." Archie shook his head in amazement. "And something called 'Q' did this?"
seekingcrocodile: (at your service)

[personal profile] seekingcrocodile 2015-03-25 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"So I've heard. I have not met the man myself. He seems to be doing this out of some desire to get attention from the captain."

If any of his crew members had acted like this, he would have removed them from his crew.
contocricket: (Considering)

[personal profile] contocricket 2015-03-25 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah. That's one way to get someone's attention, I suppose," Archie agreed. "And he does this often?"
seekingcrocodile: (consulting)

[personal profile] seekingcrocodile 2015-03-25 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fairly regularly. Monthly, it would seem. He does send someone home on occasion, or at least that is my understanding." So that's something.

"How long have you been here?"

With time travel, this Q could probably send them back a few seconds after they disappeared.

"A few weeks. I haven't quite adjusted to the change in location yet." Not just because of being in space. Also because of all of the strange technology. It's even fancier than what he's seen in Storybrooke.
contocricket: (Considering)

Sorry for the delay.

[personal profile] contocricket 2015-03-30 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I can see why. This is an even bigger jump from the Enchanted Forest," Archie said.
seekingcrocodile: (facepalm hook)

[personal profile] seekingcrocodile 2015-03-30 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I can't even figure out how to use a talking phone yet. These devices they have here are even stranger."
contocricket: (The good doctor)

[personal profile] contocricket 2015-03-30 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I almost hate to ask what they do have here."

Because guaranteed he was going to be just as lost.

"I've barely mastered texting back home."

It was a weak joke...even if it was true. A million apps for his cellphone, and he only used it to call people and text.
seekingcrocodile: (enchanted forest)

"I don't even know how to do that." He pushes the Emma button and she (sometimes) answers. That's the extent of his knowledge.

"There are these things called replicators. I have no idea how they work, but they provide food and apparently even clothing."

It looks too much like magic to make him entirely comfortable.
contocricket: (Wait what?)

[personal profile] contocricket 2015-03-30 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you have to put something in first? Like ingredients or cloth...?"
seekingcrocodile: (Default)

oops

[personal profile] seekingcrocodile 2015-03-31 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"You do not. You just tell it what you want, and it produces it." Just like magic.
contocricket: (Pensive)

It's all good.

[personal profile] contocricket 2015-03-31 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"That's...unsettling."

Because magic came at a price sooner or later.
seekingcrocodile: (at home here)

[personal profile] seekingcrocodile 2015-03-31 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"It is, but it doesn't seem to bother those in charge on this ship." He just doesn't want to be the one who ends up having to pay that price.
