TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

[Option 1]

There are just some things that are comfortable and normal, even on a ship that's as good as home. Normally for Reg that would be the holodeck, but for one he's actually working to avoid that crutch (because it is one and admitting it is half the battle right?) and two, well if anyone here caught him doing there and realized he was older, he's not so sure he could handle the disappointment. Engineering is out as a hiding place, as is Ten Forward because of his tendency to talk and until he's got a handle on everything (and a firm reminder in place that there is a regulation for this type of thing) he's just going off to a place he's pretty certain he won't make too big of a mess.

Which is how he ends up near the tank, hands in the air as he talks and paces near it to his aquatic audience.

"It just doesn't make any sense! Why here? Why me?"

[Option 2]

It's really only because he wants something to drink that he wanders to Ten Forward. It's not because he wants to make sure this is all real and not him having a breakdown while working on things, he's pretty well convinced it's not (and if it is then he's probably better off thinking it's not for now). So he gets a glass of warm milk, hoping it will calm his nerves some, and starts to head towards a table when he turns his head sharply, thinking he heard his name called, only to walk right into someone, and accidentally spilling his milk on them.

Which makes him turn back to in front of him and stammer. "I'm so, so sorry."

"Please, do not worry. It isn't as if I am particularly partial to this outfit."

Lal offers him a smile, placing what she assumes would be a comforting hand on his forearm instead of moving to shake the milk from her dress.

"It is you, Mr. Barclay. But not the same you. You seem older." She stops, realizing that might be interpreted badly. "I am sorry, I meant that you seem as if you have been displaced by Q. It was not a comment on your appearance."

B'Elanna had been walking around the ship for awhile now, just learning the way of things aboard this ship. She paused though, when she saw a familiar face. She studied him though, just taking in the familiar face.

"Lt. Barclay?"

Agatha blinked as the milk spilled down her front, causing her to drop the armload of gears and tools she had been carrying in with her. She liked working around other people sometimes, she had gotten used to it when fixing the Castle, and sometimes her room was just... too quiet.

"Well... that's new," she said, watching the white liquid pooling in the crevices of the bits and pieces.

She regards the lieutenant as one would a foul smell. It's a very subtle glare. But it doesn't take much from these eyes.

"Yes. I suspect you are."

SHODAN considers the man's body language. Timid. Easily intimidated. But clearly a crew member, judging from the uniform.

She consciously softens her expression. "It's quite alright. Can you find me a towel?"

"There's always a reason, Mr. Barclay. Not all of us are lucky enough to know it."

Gary Seven didn't know if there were any records of him in the database. Occasionally the Aegis would clean them out, but then a flicker in the timeline would happen and they would reappear. Intercepting future Federation officers. Dividians. Kirk's crew. The Q. Something.

It was irritating, but it did happen. Whether or not that record still registered in Barclay's genius (if unfortunate) head was up for debate.

But not one that mattered at the moment. He hefted the animal in his arms, a happily purring black cat, and took a step closer to the tank. Close enough that she could daintily sniff it, and reach out a paw as if she wanted to get a better look at the creatures inside.
