TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

Pongo started getting to his feet, baring his teeth and growling.

"Pongo, no," Archie said sharply.

The Dalmatian moved into a sitting position, looking up at his human pet and whining as if to say "but she started it!"

Archie deftly wrapped his fingers around Pongo's collar and looked up towards the cat's owner. "I'm really sorry. He's generally good with--" Then his face grew concerned. "Are you all right?"

She dove and grabbed up the cat. Buttercup hissed and squirmed, but let Prim hold him.

"Y..yeah," she said softly, thinking he meant because of the feline in her arms. "Buttercup would never hurt me."

Which made her think of Katniss, of how much Buttercup hated Katniss. Of how Katniss was gone....

She swallowed hard, fighting back tears. "I'll... take him back to my room," she said softly. "I didn't expect there to be any other animals here that he would bother..."

"It's all right. Pongo won't hurt him," Archie said. "But you look like you've been crying. Do you want to talk about it?"

Typical Archie. Strange new place or someone crying? He'll focus on the person that had been crying.

She hesitated, then looked down at her cat. She did... but she didn't know him, and the person that she wanted to talk to... was no longer there.

"It might help with whatever's bothering you," he offered. He was a good listener if nothing else.

She hesitated, then shook her head. "Talking... won't bring her back. If it would, she'd be here already," she finally whispered before burring her face against Buttercup's head.
