TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

He gave her a slightly sideways look, unsure of so many things, now that the planks had been pulled from under his feet.

"What does, precisely?" he asked her cautiously. He was not accustomed to being spoken to by pretty young women in taverns. Especially as she did not seem to be even remotely the sort that he would have expected to see in such a place.

If this place truly was such a place as it at first seemed to be. And to not be.

"Seeing that," She gesturing to the window behind her, showing space as far as the eye could see. She turned and looked out of the window, smiling slightly, as she got used to the scenery finally.

Having Killian here helped.

"You're aboard a starship," she explained. "Someone's idea of a cosmic joke I think. I'm Emma."

"I assure you, I would know well if I were aboard a ship, regardless of the type."

He was ready for the Pegasus sail, he knew what to expect. Even without the comfort of the ocean under the planks, he knew there would still be the snap of the sail, the spice of the air, the cool breezes. Nay, there was no way that this was a ship. Star, sky, sea, or any sort.

"I am Jones. Captain Liam Jones," he said finally, after a pause. There was no harm in sharing that, even if the lass was being dishonest with him about the nature of this place. Still, returning a lie for a lie... would not be good form.

Emma sat back fully in her chair with a soft woosh. "Oh it's a ship. My boyfriend doesn't get it either. He tried to make his ship on the Holodeck," She finished, her eyes widening at the name.

"I'll be dammed. Do you know a Killian Jones?" She asked, folding her hands on the table. "He Captained the Jolly Roger."

"...Killian...." he repeated slowly, eying her. What game was this? What was she playing at.

"I know a Killian Jones, however he is no Captain." Not yet. His brother had the skills needed, and one day he knew his little brother would strike out on his own, would be a captain of the finest degree. He both looked forward to that day and dreaded it.

He would be proud of Killian when that day came, but also... he already knew he would miss having him at his side. No one was better to serve alongside. No one.
