TEST DRIVE #5 - Low Gravity Gymnasium and Ten Forward

Option 01. Ten Forward: The first thing you see is a bar. A large, lively bar filled with many different faces and many different smells, sights and sounds. This is Ten Forward, the Enterprises' off-duty lounge; feel free to get acquainted with your fellow travelers and try to find somebody who's in charge: this is your new home now, after all...

Option 02. Aboard the Enterprise, The Low-Gravity Gymnasium: The gym is a large room with several alcove-like sections housing the aerobics and martial arts areas, a parrises squares area, an anbo-jyutsu court, and a separate fencing room. While there is normally a zero-gravity area as well, today all of the gym is in zero-gravity conditions.

Zero-gravity can be, well, kind of weird, because it's not like a gradual loss of the pressure holding you to the floor--you may have taken the turbolifts, just expecting to take a leisurely run, or maybe work out with a treadmill to get in some cardio, but the minute you step into the gym you're floating, as is anything you might have been holding or bringing with you.

Do you freak out, start flailing and trying to swim through the air back to where you can escape? Do you make the best of it and tough it out to get your exercise in, or do you start having fun with the sudden game of weightlessness? Pick your personal scenario and have fun with all the other weightless people.

It might be because lately Peter's had to believe in a lot of things that never used to make sense.

Like radioactive spider-bites. Giant lizards. The extremities of life and death. Spider-Man. Being winked into space by an omnipotent being. Omnipotent beings. The Enterprise. The fact that he's friends with a guy who is at least 3,000 years ahead of him.

... things like that would make anyone reconsider their belief systems.

Peter raises an eyebrow.

"Yeah. Yeah, I can see you. Why? Should I ... not be able to see you?"

Is this a case of 'I see dead people'?

Oh, shit.

He hopes Jack isn't ... well, dead.

(It would explain the cold upon contact.)

Technically, Jack is a dead guy. But totally not in the way that Peter is thinking.

"Um, well. It's not that you're not suppose to not see me it's just... well, since when do people your age believe in things like Jack Frost without some sort of proof or something?"

Because he knew that were adults who still believed, but Jack Frost was just usually not on that list.

"Huh?"

Colour Peter confused.

He's going to need a bit more elaboration on that, if you please.

"What exactly are you talking about?"

Jack looked over at Baby Tooth but she just shrugged at him. He rested his staff against his shoulder and turned his head back to Peter.

"Um. I'm Jack Frost."

Peter tilts his head.

"Like, the personification of Winter ...?"

Huh.

That's definitely a new one.

But he doesn't look disbelieving, so that's something.

"Y'know, I thought you'd be older. But you uh - you look kind of like you're around my age."
frostedoverland: (❄️ 24)

[personal profile] frostedoverland 2014-10-02 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, actually," Jack couldn't help but chuckle. "Shepherd of Winter, to be precise. Just because I look around your age doesn't mean I am. I've been around for a long time."

Perhaps not as long as Winter itself but... a long time nonetheless.

"Yeah, I guess you have," Peter allows. "You're from - uh. All the stories."

Y'know, stories that are so old they're more oral myth than printed book.

"So why the teenage body?"

Doesn't Jack know about the awkwardness, and the lack of motor control, and the general flailing about of limbs being all out of proportion and weird and everything about being a teenager being super uncomfortable?

"Well, it's not like I had a choice," Jack shrugged, although he did notice that some people were staring at Peter oddly. Probably because they couldn't see Jack. He wondered, briefly, if he should say something about it. "Besides, it's not so bad. I get to be taller than all the other kids but I don't have to worry about adult things. Best of both worlds, I guess."
spideys: (024 ❖ yeah i know.)

[personal profile] spideys 2014-10-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
.... well, it wouldn't be the first time he'd been stared at like he's the oddball out.

If Peter notices at all, he isn't making any note of it.

"I guess when you uh - put it that way, then it makes sense.

"Say, I've got a question for you. You didn't come here on purpose, did you?"

Given the whole crashing into Peter thing, he doubts that he did.

[personal profile] frostedoverland 2014-10-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Jack raised a brow. "I wouldn't leave the Planet on purpose. Not for... uh... where are we, anyway?"

Because he couldn't feel Earth anymore. And it bothered him.

"Space, the final frontier?" Peter fills in.

He gives Jack an apologetic shrug.

"You, me, and the rest of these people were kinda - uh. Taken as hostage, I guess, by a guy who thinks this is a hilarious joke.

"This ship is called the Enterprise."
frostedoverland: (❄️ 32)

[personal profile] frostedoverland 2014-10-06 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"...the what?" Jack looked so confused, it was actually almost comical. He looked at Peter as those he had grown a second head. "I'm in Space? But a guy who is playing a joke? Does he know what taking a spirit that controls the weather can do to a Planet? Is there any way I can even go home?"
spideys: (045 ❖ or we could.)

[personal profile] spideys 2014-10-08 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh. That's a lot of questions in one breath."

Peter shrugs another apologetic shrug. He wishes he could do or say more that might make sense ... but as it is, he'll do his best.

Just your friendly neighbourhood teenager trying to help.

"So - yeah. You're in space. Because a guy playing a prank has the power to do it. I doubt he really knows much about people or - or spirits, I guess? He also doesn't seem to care. And uh - as for going home, that might be a problem."

He looks grim.

"Considering we've traveled through space and time."
frostedoverland: (❄️ 7)

[personal profile] frostedoverland 2014-10-08 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack just gave Peter an unamused look at that as he waited for the answer. So some magical being was doing this and-

"And time? So this isn't 2013?"
spideys: (047 ❖ nbd dude.)

[personal profile] spideys 2014-10-10 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not even a little, man."

Oops?

"Try adding a few hundred years to that, at least."
