TEST DRIVE #5 - Low Gravity Gymnasium and Ten Forward

Option 01. Ten Forward: The first thing you see is a bar. A large, lively bar filled with many different faces and many different smells, sights and sounds. This is Ten Forward, the Enterprises' off-duty lounge; feel free to get acquainted with your fellow travelers and try to find somebody who's in charge: this is your new home now, after all...

Option 02. Aboard the Enterprise, The Low-Gravity Gymnasium: The gym is a large room with several alcove-like sections housing the aerobics and martial arts areas, a parrises squares area, an anbo-jyutsu court, and a separate fencing room. While there is normally a zero-gravity area as well, today all of the gym is in zero-gravity conditions.

Zero-gravity can be, well, kind of weird, because it's not like a gradual loss of the pressure holding you to the floor--you may have taken the turbolifts, just expecting to take a leisurely run, or maybe work out with a treadmill to get in some cardio, but the minute you step into the gym you're floating, as is anything you might have been holding or bringing with you.

Do you freak out, start flailing and trying to swim through the air back to where you can escape? Do you make the best of it and tough it out to get your exercise in, or do you start having fun with the sudden game of weightlessness? Pick your personal scenario and have fun with all the other weightless people.

The first thing Toothiana realizes is that she's not in Adstringendum anymore. The second thing she realizes is that she isn't even on a planet anymore either. At least she doesn't think most planets are so platinum. Chrome. Whatever this material is.

All the metal and shine are a stark contrast to the bleak, dreary atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic universe she'd resided in before. Though she's appreciative of the nicer conditions, she's not a huge fan of how confined the spaces are. The woman is used to being able to stretch her wings and flit about easily, not be stuck walking everywhere for fear of hurting someone else or herself with her large wingspan.

Eventually, she comes across the bar. Ah. She might be able to find someone who can tell her what's going on here and - Oh. It occurs to her, suddenly, that like Adstringendum people might be able to see her. ... But they're not staring like they had there. In fact, her presence seems to go so unnoticed that she wonders if the people around even can see her. It'd be a step back from actually being able to interact and work with others but not anything new, at least.

So, as it is, there's a very distressed ( albeit very colorful ) lady standing at the edge of the entrance of the bar. Anyone want to help a gal out?

Akito has mostly gotten used to not being in Adstringéndum at this point, but it's still hard to adjust to being able to ask for whatever he wants and receive it (within reason). So he relies on what he had on him at the time of his arrival for as long as he can manage, even as Shark takes everything in stride. Akito knows that his cat is being given treats by other passengers; making more friends and being more social than Akito himself. So far there have been no ill effects apart from possibly a bit of gained weight, so he can't bring himself to fret over Shark too much anymore.

It should be no surprise that it's Shark who finds Toothiana first, keen to bum as many scratches from the people in the bar as possible before Akito collects him. Of course, once he spots his bird-lady friend, Shark is quick to change goals from begging for attention to prowling over in order to cover her with his scent.

Miaow, says Shark in greeting, pleased that more of his Humans are showing up. Even if they don't seem to remember him.

While Akito does turn up very shortly after Shark runs up to Toothiana, he is more hesitant in his approach. He's already played this game twice now, and doesn't know if he can take being forgotten by someone important for a third time.

Shark was certainly not the feline she was expecting to see. "Well, hello," she coos, crouching down to give the cat a friendly scratch herself. If Shark is here then that means Akito and Agito can't be too far behind.

Her guess is right. As soon as violet eyes land on Akito, she's smiling wide. "Akito! Oh, I'm so glad to see you." In the blink of an eye, she's up close and instinctively checking him over. Good. He looks alright. "Where are we?" He might not know, she has as an afterthought, but he's the first person she's familiar enough with to ask right out. He's also the first person on this ship she knows can see her.

It isn't that Steve didn't believe in the Tooth Fairy growing up, but like most myths that provide gifts and wealth for children -- Saint Nick, The Easter Bunny, and so on -- it's hard to keep the dream alive when money is hard to come by. Sarah could scrimp for a few extra pennies to put under his pillow, but it wasn't always easy, and when he got old enough to realize what was happening he told her to stop, to put it toward something important.

He's still the kind of man who would believe in the power of clicking his heels together, clapping to save a fairy, or thinking happy thoughts, but he's also a practical man. Objective, and analytical. So Toothiana goes unnoticed, invisible to his eyes. He'll feel bad about that later.

He's perched at a table with a pad of paper, idly sketching things he sees around the room. He doesn't know why, but his eyes keep straying to the door, as if he expects someone to arrive or appear. It's like he's missing something, and he can't figure out what it is.

Even though she's hanging back there are people coming and going. She finally speaks up in an attempt at communication. "Sir-" she tries but the man walking by doesn't so much as glance her way. "Ma'am-" starts another attempt but this time she's literally walked through.

So, that settles it then. These people - these adults - can't see her. After Adstringendum and having all eyes on her regularly, it's definitely going to be an adjustment. Shark the cat saunters up and gives the Sister of Flight a friendly meow. Despite having pet him already, he's insistent in having even more attention.

So, without a second thought, Toothiana scoops the feline up in her arms who purrs contentedly.

Steve drops his pencil.

He's familiar with Shark the Cat. Even if the feline hasn't been aboard that long, he's made himself pretty comfortable with following Steve into his quarters and trotting after him for treats and pets. Steve's gotten used to seeing him, but he's never seen him float before.

"Jumping Jehoshaphat," he murmurs, blinking at the sight. "Uh, Shark? Kitty-kitty?"

He clicks his tongue to get the cat's attention, but he doesn't look like he's in distress. He actually looks pretty content, and the closer Steve looks he can see indentations in his fur, as if something is holding him.

At first, Toothiana just blinks at Steve. It then finally occurs to her how absolutely bizarre this must look if one took her out of the picture. A floating cat. Shark responds to his call by stretching over Toothiana's arms and meowing. The feline continues to purr quietly as now, Steve might notice, the indentations in his fur move with Toothiana's hand.

Well. That's one to get someone's attention. Her eyes flit around the area. Maybe she could find some paper, a pen and write him a message. Those sorts of things are likely not rarities here, she has to remind herself. If not there has to be some way she can try and communicate.
