TEST DRIVE #6 - The Bridge and Ten Forward

Option 01. Ten Forward: The first thing you see is a bar. A large, lively bar filled with many different faces and many different smells, sights and sounds. This is Ten Forward, the Enterprise's off-duty lounge; feel free to get acquainted with your fellow travelers and try to find somebody who's in charge: this is your new home now, after all...

Option 02. The Bridge: Well, aren't you a lucky duck? You've found yourself in hallowed quarters. Wherever you were before, you're not there anymore. Now you're in a room that could be some kind of command center or control room; there's a captain's chair flanked by seats for his chief officers, computer panels and stations at each interior wall, and before you a broad viewscreen that shows the wide expanse of space rushing towards you. Have you ever wanted to be a starship captain for a day? Well, here's your chance. Feel free to roam around, but try not to touch anything shiny.
[OOC: The Bridge isn't usually available for in-game posts, so if you've ever wanted to play there, here's your chance!]
must hit post comment to post tag. ><
[Still, Alec enjoyed learning those sort of things. It made life interesting.]
'C'. It's actually Alexander, but when I was little my sister and I never made it past Alec for a long while. It sort of stuck.
[The way he says Alexander (Alec'zander) makes it sound like it Alec would be the natural shortening as opposed to Alex. Accents are fun!]
*snort* I was wondering. But I've done that.
[ And was his beloved uncle's name. Details. ]
Older or younger sister?
[ He's careful as he asks, the question gentle. But he nods at the explanation. English was far from his first language, accents were interesting. ]
And then I had a massive migraine and just diiied so I couldn't check
[The devil is in the details. Though Alec would love to know that. He loves that sort of stuff. His own accent is reminiscent of Welsh mixed with something else.]
Older. By ten minutes... or nineteen years...
[The question doesn't bother him. He rolls his eyes in annoyance.]
Ten minutes and a day, sort of. She was born about five minutes before midnight and I was born five minutes after on the leap day. So, technically, I've only had four birthdays to her twenty-three. As she enjoys reminding me on occasion.
[The leap day in Alec's world comes once every five years instead of four like on Earth. Also, there are never two people more mature than siblings discussing details about their past.]
I had one of those the beginning of the week, they suck
[ German was bitter, hard and rough and cold and dry in his mouth. It was still the first two languages he spoke, and on his good days, he was fond of it. ]
You know for a minute I thought you were going to say stasis was involved.
[ What does that say? ]
Whoever invented migraines should feel all of them at once. :|
Probably because they're so cold they're making hacking noises from all the phlegm in their throats and it crept into the language.
[He grins. Though at the stasis question Alec does get an honestly thoughtful look on his face.]
Stasis and accelerated growth... because something would have to compensate for the fact that we still look the same age.
[They've lived some very strange lives... because Alec honestly is entertaining the possibilities of that.]
Seriously. It was one of those "is this a mirgraine or a stroke" deals too
Also easier to shout over the vast frozen steepes.
[ There are some ways to tell - it doesn't put the same age on bones that normal growth does - but Magneto has neither the powers or tools currently to tell. ]
There are many explanations. Does that happen with other siblings or unique to your family?
ugh. Mine was just "let me die". Payment for being outside without sunglasses
He knew building a government free utopia underwater was a bad idea... but did anyone listen to him? Nooo...]Where it's generally cold, so you end up hoarse from yelling, which leads to phlegm.
Does what happen with other siblings? Her thinking you can freeze fire... no... wait.... idioms... harder in Russian... her being a nitwit?
[Because Alec doesn't realize Erik is talking about stasis and growth.]
Yeah I never do that either.
and being "dead", so it's almost fun. ]It's an incredibly vicious cycle yes. Their lot to bear.
[ He laughs. ]
No, that's normal, I know. The grow pattern - in your home world. Siblings with large age gaps who don't appear to have one.
not even a minute walk... what could it hurt I thought...
[There's a long pause from Alec as he parses what Erik has to say. It's a bit harder to do it while speaking in Russian.]
Oh! Oh! ... No. No... no... there's no age gap. We're both twenty three... it's just that my birthday ... the physical date... it's on the equivalent of February 29th and she's on February 28th. It's just that... the circumstances that gave me my abilities have made my personal time line a wibbly wobbly mess. Only seconds pass on my world while I can spend lifetimes in other worlds. So. I spend three hours here. Another two years somewhere else. Come back home and no one knows I've been gone.
[He thinks that's what Erik is asking about.]
A lot, clearly.
[ though he prefers wine. ]
So is the apparent lack of aging due to your only partially being in other worlds, or do you simply have an uncommonly long life span?
[ Well hello powers talk again. ]
Clearly. :/
[Alec isn't particular, really.]
It's because of being only partially in other worlds. It also means I can't die. Ever. At all. It just ... doesn't stick.
[He's not happy about this. There's nothing quite like knowing you're going to out live everyone you ever know...]
They don't know that.
some of us are meant to be noturnal
[ Remember what he said about feeding vices? ]
I'm sorry for that. No one who truly understands what it is to live forever would want to.
[ Says the man who's beginning to understand just how long he's going to live. ]
Apparently. XD
[Yup.]
Yeah. Never understood that. I guess they don't really know what it means. I've talk to my older self occasionally... he goes ... I go... completely around the bend once my world dies. It's like everything that was... that holds me back from being a rat bastard vanishes when that happens.
[They should start a support group. Immortals/really long lived people who realize how sucky it is support.]
no subject
[ He gets a look, not too thrilled about that news. ]
If the food tastes like powdered eggs, I'm going to have to find another source of food.
[ That's not an idle threat either, he will. He enjoys cooking and good tasting food. ]
I don't think they do. But I am sorry to hear that.
[ They really should. Too bad he won't. ]
no subject
[Honestly, Alec doesn't blame him. While Alec dislikes cooking, he has resorted to making his own food rather than eating processed food.]
[He stops and tilts his head, getting a faraway - slightly glazed look in his eyes for a moment before snapping back to the here and now and sighing.]
He says he loves you too.
no subject
[ He'd figure out something, in otherwords. ]
What?
[ He's just going to focus on Alec very intensely. ]
no subject
I told you I talked to my older self occasionally, right? He tends to notice when I'm talking about him... possibly because he remembers himself doing that... and will peanut gallery in my head sometimes.
no subject
[ It's actually quiet, not really understanding - because he doesn't have reference for that - but quiet and gentle. Powers each have their quirks. ]
no subject
[Alec actually hesitates to see if that will happen, but it appears his older self has wandered off after having put his two cents in.
However, Alec does have a bit of a reference for Magento.]
It's kinda like what happened to Kitty Pryde when Rachel sent her older self's mind back in time to her younger self's body to stop some guy from getting assassinated? Except that I'm doing it to myself for no other reason beyond shits and giggles.
no subject
[ But the explanation helps, even if it's very strange to hear something generally only spoken of in certain circles so openly. ]
Yes, that would be...complicated.
no subject
My life is incredibly weird and annoying at times.
[He gives a bit of a wry grin.]
I suppose you can think of this as some sort of demented vacation.
no subject
I think that sums up the lives of most people I know.
[ Which is about as much approval as he's going to offer right now. ]
I'm not really one for vacations.
no subject
That's what I do. I do things out here that I won't do back home.
no subject
no subject
So, does that mean you're going to not make this a vacation and do things you'd normally do back home?
[He leaves off exactly what Those Things are, because he's not sure where Magneto is in his timeline or even all the various possible iterations.]
