TEST DRIVE #2 - The Holodeck/Ten Forward

Where were you a minute ago? Well, you aren't there anymore. Instead, you're standing in a very large, dark room lined with yellow. There are doors at either end of it.

Here's where things get a little choose your own adventure-y. You could:

1: Approach a console filled with buttons, located a few feet away. Press one, and it'll let you out of the room. Travel down a long hallway and you'll be in Ten Forward, the Enterprises' entertainment lounge. Have a drink, mingle and try to figure out why you're here.

OR

2: Maybe you just muttered some vague request under your breath. Maybe you wished aloud you were somewhere else. Or for help? If you did, might be in a fire station. Muttered something about killing whoever dumped you here? Surprise - you're in a slasher movie!

Though they're confusing, these visions feel about as real as they can be. And guess what - other people can experience those fantasies with you, as if they too were really there. How ever will you escape? Or do you want to?

[OOC: Welcome to the Holodeck! If you choose this option, whatever your character chooses to say out loud will cause a virtual reality program to load and play. While your character feels as if what they're experiencing and seeing is quite real, they're purely living through the latest and best in what he Enterprise has to offer in entertainment. Make sure to detail what your character's fantasy is, so that those threading with them will know how to react.

Open til next month's test drive!]

She fixes him with a dry look. "Yes. It's a fairy tale. Red Riding Hood is a story from near my home, it's meant to warn children about the consequences of disobeying their parents and trusting too easily while at fragile liminal stages of life."

Wow. Henry stops eating to give her a look. And he thought he sounded twice his age.

"It's not just a fairy tale. It actually happened. Ruby is the wolf."

Sinthia blinks.

"You're on given-name terms with a fairytale creature who killed and fed an old woman to a child and you expect me to think you're sane," she says, fixing him with a questioning look.

"Either you've lost touch with reality, or if you're telling the truth, you're a very friendly sociopath."
goldencobra: (S1 - Book tiems)

"That's not what happened." He reaches into his backpack and pulls out the book. "I'm neither. I assume you can read."

Opens the book to a part with Red in it and shoves it towards Sinthia.

(The contents of the book in canon is largely unknown so just roll with it? Ty)

She takes it--well, taking is a bad word, because she's letting it levitate in front of her to read it quickly--and after a moment she looks back up. "That's not the story I know as Little Red Riding Hood."

She asks the nearest replicator to give her the Perrault story, and hands it to Henry expectantly. "That is the story I know." To say the least it's a tad more...graphic.

The levitation catches Henry by surprise. "That's definitely magic." But he does take the book and flips through it, getting the jist of the story.

"Yes indeed. Very different. But it's not the truth. Bet you think you know the stories of Snow White, Rumplestiltskin and Pinocchio too, huh?"
abyssum_invocat: (child leggy)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-06-25 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
"It's telekinesis," she says lightly, taking the book back when he's done.

"What makes you think your version of the truth is any more valid than mine?"

"Looks like magic to me." Especially considering other parts of the book.

"Because mine really happened. You said yours was designed to scare kids. But everything in this book actually happened." He doesn't feel as sure as he sounds. He hates that the book is real but he knows it's true and truth is important.

"Arthur Clarke," she replies. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic to an outsider."

She still doesn't believe what happened in that book is real. "How can you prove it isn't a delusion in your head?"
goldencobra: (S1 - Book tiems)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-06-25 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you could explain any magical action using technology?" He doesn't believe that's possible. And the question she poses gives him pause.

"Why should I prove it? There's nothing to disprove it."
abyssum_invocat: (child lazing about)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-06-26 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"But that's not how it works," she says. "You have to prove why a thing is true, not tell me to prove why it isn't. That's how philosophical arguments work."
goldencobra: (S1 - Eyeroll)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-06-26 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why is that how it works? Why do we have to play by your rules?"
abyssum_invocat: (child are you kidding?)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-06-26 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"We're not playing, and because this is how a logical argument works. Isn't it how it does in your world?"
goldencobra: (S1 - Smile)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't realise we were arguing." He shrugged. "I was just telling the truth. Don't want to end up like Pinocchio." He grinned, assuming she knew that story too.
abyssum_invocat: (child sigh)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-07-02 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"You already are," she says dryly, arms crossed. "You're being obtuse. Any logical discourse is called an argument or a debate if it involves more than one person."
goldencobra: (S1 - Eyeroll)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-02 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Are you sure you're a kid and not some alien that looks like one? Even I don't use words like obtuse and discourse." As much as it was nice to talk to another kid that wasn't cursed, this wasn't what he expected them to be like.
abyssum_invocat: (child questioning)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-07-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course I'm a child, I'm eight years old," she says. "Just because I use bigger words than you doesn't mean I'm an alien."
goldencobra: (S1 - Book tiems)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-02 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Anyone could be an alien here. I could be." He grinned again but realises she's not that kind of kid. "I'm only ten. But I feel older because last year was so weird."
abyssum_invocat: (child you're interrupting my reading)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-07-02 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not an alien," she repeats. "I'm from Berlin. What about you?"
goldencobra: (S1 - Hmmm)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-02 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Henry refrains from that line of enquiry. "Storybrooke, Maine."
abyssum_invocat: (child are you kidding?)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-07-02 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"So you are an American."
abyssum_invocat: (child you're interrupting my reading)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-07-02 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Is Maine no longer part of America?"
goldencobra: (S1 - Eyeroll)

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"No. Maine is in America. But just because I live there, doesn't make me American." Just like big words don't make you an alien. Duh!
abyssum_invocat: (child stuff to do)

[personal profile] abyssum_invocat 2014-07-02 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually it does. If you were born there you have automatic citizenship. And I doubt you were born anywhere else," she says.
