TEST DRIVE #10 - Cetacean Pool and Ten Forward

#1

Option 001. Cetacean Pool/Aquatics Lab: Of all the places in the world, you open your eyes and you find yourself in a medium-sized aquatics laboratory, filled with various living specimens along with various science officers bustling about trying to maintain order. There's much to explore here (and hopefully, in the crew's opinion, not break), but the main attraction is the large pool at the far end of the lab; enormous but tanklike in appearance, it contains several dolphins happily swimming about, seemingly without a care in the world.

Option 002. Aboard the Enterprise, Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, and now you're on a spaceship, in the middle of a crowded room. It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward a long bar with barstools and a bartender, tables sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but windows out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

"It's all right. Pongo won't hurt him," Archie said. "But you look like you've been crying. Do you want to talk about it?"

Typical Archie. Strange new place or someone crying? He'll focus on the person that had been crying.

((ooc: Still setting up the journal. Basically the serum didn't work the way everyone expected, leaving Steve the same size and just as stubborn. He trained with Carter to be an agent and was the strategist behind the Howling Commandos))

Option 2

Steve was used to ending up in weird places, but he usually remembers how he got there. One minute he'd been heading to a meeting, the next he'd ended up in a bar. Trying to seem casual as he looked around, trying to get an idea of what had happened. His thoughts were clear, alert, so he hadn't been drugged and most people who would be interested in him would be smart enough to restrain him if he had been kidnapped.

And kidnappers didn't usually drop their victims in bars to fend for themselves.

After adjusting the sleeves of his ill-fitting suit jacket, he drifted among the tables, trying to be as unmemorable as possible. Listening in on some of the conversations, he began to wonder if someone had slipped him something since most of what he heard sounded like it was out of a pulp novel.

She hesitated, then looked down at her cat. She did... but she didn't know him, and the person that she wanted to talk to... was no longer there.

"Exactly my thought." Gold replied, a touch of 'finally, someone understands' coloring his words.

"Let's go tend to that tour shall we?" He asked, gesturing toward the door that led to the hall beyond.

"Whoa."

Only a moment ago Ellie had be fighting for her life and now she was standing before a sphere of water with something swimming inside of it. Ellie hadn't ever seen a dolphin before and so the moment she heard the strange splashing she went to investigate. This place wasn't like her home but she still kept her backpack slung across her shoulder and a blade at her side. Her gun was packed in her backpack after being convinced that she wouldn't need it but she still didn't want to let it off her person.

Her palms pressed against the cold glass as she watched the dolphins dance through the crystal blue water. She was giddy watching them with a wide smile as they swam by.

"Shit! What are these things?"

OO2

Ellie had been standing with Joel about to end their long journey when she felt the world around her plunge into darkness. For a moment she thought that she might have turned, that the infection had finally taken her but of course she couldn't be so lucky. She shook her head looking at the unfamiliar scene around her. The sight of people made her panic and back against the wall with her gun out, ready to be fired.

"Fuck!" The word was whispered from her lips as her eyes trained on those around her.

She already knew there were to many people here to get out alive but she had always been a fighter. She didn't notice the stars outside the window or the state of dress of those around her. It was fight or flight for the young girl and she already had felt on edge.

Archie picked up his glass. "Might as well finish this off since I have a feeling I'm going to need a stiff drink by the end of this."

Particularly since they were in space.

Sam comes to the bar half to people watch, so when he spots someone moving around the tables without ever really stopping at any of them, his attention is caught.

At first he doesn't think too much of it, except to wonder if maybe he's looking for someone - or he's new here - but then Sam gets a better look at him. Or, more accurately, at his face, and then Sam's up off his stool and heading over almost before he realizes what he's doing.

"Steve?"
always_a_gerbil: (Bad Idea)

[personal profile] always_a_gerbil 2015-03-31 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't take Steve long to realize he'd caught someone's attention even if he wasn't sure if it was good attention or not. Not that he wasn't used to barroom fights but this didn't look like the type of place to start something. Even if it was, it'd draw unwanted attention that he didn't need until he was sure of what was going on.

It was obvious that the man recognized him but Steve couldn't remember ever seeing him before. He should remember if they had unless his memory had been effected by whatever had happened. Giving the man a self-depreciating smile, he focused on the rest of the room, wondering if anyone else was going to make a move toward him. "Is that a lucky guess or have we met before?"

Clark was worried when he found himself in another place, in some kind of space ship! But it was so cool! And while he had no idea where he was or what was going on, he couldn't keep himself form exploring.

And so people would see a small costumed kid, about yea high, flying through the ship, looking around.

And then he found the dolphins! A moment later, he was at the glass staring at them, grinning like an idiot. And asking whoever was closest an important question.

"Do they like to be swum with?"

As always Emma was fascinated by Scott's brain. She moved gently, revernetly. This young man deserved her respect. He'd recieved precious little of it at any point in his life so far. She wasn't sure he'd ever recieved it in adequate quantities.

The package contained all the gross information about the Enterprise, as well as her interactions with her Scott. It was more efficient that way.

Artemis Fowl II | Artemis Fowl Book Series

[personal profile] eternallyhazel 2015-03-31 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Option 002 ]

The last few minutes had been so hectic for Artemis Fowl. In fact the last few days or even years could be said to be never ending, never ceasing, never boring. He had even realised his eyes were closed until he opened them. But what he saw, was not what he expected to see.

He was in a bar.

Looking around with his mismatched eyes, he took in every detail he could. The round tables, the double doors, the long large window looking out into the stars. Where on Earth was he? Or was he even on Earth?

His mind finally caught up with him and he did a self check as Butler had always told him. Everything checked out and he finally moved from the spot where he had been standing. Trying, and failing, to look inconspicuous, he moved around the room inspecting everything he could and learning what he could without actually talking to someone. This was new territory. He had to tread carefully. Especially as he was alone.

She hesitated, then shook her head. "Talking... won't bring her back. If it would, she'd be here already," she finally whispered before burring her face against Buttercup's head.

Kaylin was still getting used to the concept of free and readily available food. She still wanted money, mainly for gambling purposes, but having a place of her own, having food when she wanted it, and not having to wear a ****** dress all greatly improved her mood. Being able to wake up naturally also helped.

So Kaylin was in a good mood. Something people who knew her rarely saw when she was at work. Her hair was pulled back sloppily with a hair stick, but that was just typical.

She wore her beat outfit, even though she could make her own clothes if she needed to, now. It was so odd, not needing money. Still, she was a Hawk at heart, so she continued to wear he Hawk over her heart. So she was in leather pants, though she did remove the padding, so they were a bit loose around the legs. She wore a linen shirt under leather armor which was under a chain-mail shirt, which itself was under a tabard with a flying hawk picked out in small gold beads.

She also wore a dagger on either hip, where she tended to rest her palms, a very expensive looking antique old gold bracelet encrusted with gems, heavy combat boots, a tattoo of a flower on one cheek, a familiar that looked like a dragon wrapped around her shoulders like a living shawl... and - for once - a smile.

She stopped, her steps faltering when she saw the kid. Saw the furtive way he was clearly trying to avoid attention. If an adult was acting that way, she'd be finding out how she was to go about making an arrest here. But a kid?

Protectiveness swept over her. Yes, it was likely he had swiped something, but she remembered being 13 and being on the streets, she remembered when Severn was 15 and they were on the streets. She didn't want to remember these things but... they were why she wouldn't blame him for a theft the way she would an adult. He was almost an adult himself, but not yet.

And she meant to see to it that he got to be.

She rested her palms on the cool metal pommels of her hilts, and strode over to him. "Need some help?" she asked in a firm and authoritative voice.

Prim was still sad and aching after Katniss' disappearance. She couldn't stay in that room any longer. Couldn't. Not alone. So she wandered down to the lounge, still holding Buttercup tightly in her arms. The cat didn't protest much. Prim was his, after all.

She stopped when she saw the boy. A little older than her. Odd eyes. And he looked lost. Katniss would have helped him, right? So she walked over.

"Hi," she said softly, face still marked from tears. "Are you lost?" she asked gently.

Artemis had registered the woman walking in his direction before she spoke, so he was ready for the interception. He really needed to get better at these non mental activities. Perhaps this was why he was here? And then he could go back and make that high jump?

But the woman was speaking now and he had to quickly formulate a response. Despite his recent changes of heart, the new environment brought back some of his old cockiness and he scoffed. "Do I look like I need help?"

"Yes," she said with total blunt honesty. There wasn't even a trace of hesitation.

"Look, I've been where you've been," more or less. "if you stole something or did something wrong, I'll help you make it right. And there is food here," she said, knowing what food meant when you were young and starving. *****s she knew what it meant to her now.

"We can get you some food, fix whatever you did, and get you settled. You're more or less safe here, as safe here as anywhere," she said. She had learned the hard way that crossing the river did not guarantee safety.

"There are people here who protect, it's their job to protect. And there is food."

Yes, she did repeat the bit about the food.

The girl and cat didn't seem to pose a threat but he saw she'd been crying and it made him think of Holly. When he spoke, his vague Irish accent seemed more pronounced than usual. "I wouldn't say lost, per se. But perhaps you could be useful in another fashion." Useful in another fashion? What sort of language was this? He thought. Then tried again. "What I mean is, could you tell me where I am, exactly?"

He wasn't lost but wanted to know where he was.... and... she could be useful? Something about him made her take a half step back. She wanted to run, felt like she should run. But she did her best to hold her ground. Besides... if Katniss wasn't here... what did it matter if she got hurt?

Yes, depression was making her into a defeatist little thing. She set down Buttercup, so that if she got hurt, at least the cat would be safe.

"You're in the lounge," she said. "They have food."

Artemis scoffed again. "No one has been where I have been, least of all you." He straightened his suit jacket, or what was left of it and tried to look more dignified. Like the Fowl heir should look. "I have not stolen anything." Recently. "And what is your obsession with giving me food?" He knew he was thin, Holly always told him about his pale face and figure but really, mentioning food three times in as many minutes was going a bit overboard.

He was tempted to scoff for a third time when mentioning safety. But he didn't. His mind had drifted back to looking at Holly's own mismatched eyes and Butler's face. So he said nothing else and waited for his answers.
