That's right, 1 year ago TODAY Ten Forward officially opened its doors. Thank you all so much for a great year, for giving us so much to be excited about, and for playing with us. Each and every one of you mean the world to us, and we couldn't have done it without your characters, suggestions, input, and especially your patience. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Here's to making the next year even better!

Oh-ho, but how will we make the next year better, you say? Why, what a marvelous question! How about we start off with some Event Announcements? :O

As part of our new monthly small plot initiative as voted into effect by you guys, some visitors are about to arrive on the Enterprise. Following April's Mirror!verse shenanigans, Starfleet Command has begun to lose faith in Captain Picard's ability to keep Q under control. Representatives from Starfleet and The Department of Temporal Investigations are about to join the Enterprise in a big way, and Q is none too happy about that!

So what does that mean for you? Starting this weekend, you'll start seeing some small, pre-threaded posts popping up in the IC comm. These will set up small events that will occur at an easy, staggered pace for the next several months. These will come with their own OOC plotting & sign-up posts, since they'll be handled by a variety of different players. For now, I'm going to let you know about two of them.

The representatives from Starfleet Command and Temporal Investigations will be arriving on the Enterprise on May 24th, and will spend the next few weeks poking around the ship. During this time, they'll be very interested in the guests aboard who come from strange universes or who possess strange abilities. If you would like your character to have an encounter with these officers, let us know! By interviewing and questioning Q's guests, Starfleet is going to start building a response to the Enterprise's situation, which, of course, is not going to make Q happy. And that means one thing ..... shenanigans.

In honor of our 1 year anniversary, we have chosen the most popular plot as requested by you! Drum roll, please...

WHAT: An Age Regression Plot, based on the episode "Rascals"
WHEN: June 1st - 20th
WHERE: The whole ship
WHO: Opt-in/Opt-out
HOW: Q introduces a strange virus that spreads by physical contact...

Have you ever wanted to relive your childhood? Well now you can! But perhaps not in the way you always imagined it.

While Starfleet reps are poking around the ship, Q is going to act out in his usual fashion and cause some drama. With a sudden click of his fingers, the representatives have now been infected with a virus that affects them all on a molecular level — and what is worse is it's contagious. Within 24 hours of contracting the virus, each character regresses to a physical age of about 12 years. Characters retain their memories and can still reason as adults, but for all intents and purposes they're children again.

Anyone the Starfleet representatives come in physical contact with after Q infects them will also contract the virus. From there, they will be contagious and anyone who comes in contact with them will contract the virus, and so on and so forth. The virus is only passed through physical contact, not through food, water, or breathing in the same air. The infected will appear fairly normal for the first few hours after contact. They will eventually feel very tired and run down, which will likely make them want to go lie down. When they wake up, the physical regression will be complete.

While people all over the ship start turning into children, it is now up to the unaffected to diagnose the problem, develop a vaccine to stop the virus from spreading, and eventually find a cure. Volunteers who are good with medicine, science, and technology will be needed to assist with this process. And what about the infected? Small plot settings and kid-friendly holodeck programs will be provided for maximum playtime shenanigans. Hey, if you're going to be a kid again you might as well take advantage of it, right? And don't worry, the kids can also volunteer to help out and save the day, just as it should be. There are those grumbly Starfleet reps to take care of, after all...

Patient Zero will show up in the Ten Forward lounge on May 31st, with the first few infected with the kid virus showing up in-game on June 1st. The last day you can infect your character with kid virus is June 20th, after which point the volunteers will have found a cure and start administering it to the whole ship. Any fallout from the plot will continue into the following week.

Yes! You may use an alternate journal for the purposes of having icons that depict your character at the right age, etc. You may only use this journal for the duration of the kid plot. If you leave a comment here with your alternate journal, we will grant it comm access on June 1st.

Is it Dulmer and Lucsly?

I am in the middle of reading the Dulmar and Lucsly novel Watching the Clock (it's literally right next to me) and when I saw this plot announcement that was my very first thought.

It's a super great series. I've a soft spot for people who disapprove of the status quo, I can't help it.

We've decided that the DTI characters are going to be OCs, so sorry, no. Unfortunately Dulmer and Lucsly will not be starring. But we hope you'll have fun with the OCs :D.

So I have a question because I haven't seen the episode in question. Are they going to be regressed to just being about twelve or twelve as in how they actually were at twelve? Say a character broke a bone or had an illness when they were actually twelve, would that be the case for this event or would they be just regressed to the age of twelve?

In the episode they just were turned to look twelve. No illnesses or anything like that. And you should see the episode on general principle. Picard throws a tantrum.

What about characters who are already children?

(I will have at least one more question soon, I think. Still figuring things out.)

Anyone older than 12 would be aged down to 12 if they contracted the virus. Anyone younger would be unaffected, but they'd have a lot of new friends to show the ropes to!

If he was to get infected what do? Or would there be some weird shenanigans because ???? plants.

Okay! So, the virus works on the molecular level, so if a character is functionally an adult they'd be aged down to functionally a kid. So he'd look young!

When the characters change into kids, what happens to their clothes? Stay the same, shrink down to kid-size, or do they wake up wearing clothes they would have worn when aged 12?

We are fine with it if Trance would like to regrow her tail! Strict science might not support that but we're happy with her going back to having her tail if you want her to, just for the duration of the plot.

(Sorry, Trance, you don't get to keep it, as much as you miss it!)

Question! Thor was fundamentally changed by his dreams which made him part Asgard alien, part human, and part Asgard God.

Would the spell/virus thing change him to what he had originally been like as a 12 year old, and thus turn him human again?

Or would he become a twelve year old, but as what he is now?

Okay, after some discussion, we've decided Thor would go back to human form, but retaining his memories. If the human version is still worth of Mjolnir, he can keep those abilities as well. :)

So, new question... this virus thing, will ti be able to roll back the Gammafication of Bruce Banner's DNA and cell structure if he is infected?

In general, it would be reverting a character as they are now to an apparent age of 12, so it shouldn't do that.

If you particularly want to do that, I can check in with the other mods and get their thoughts.

ETA: Okay, after a little discussion, this is probably at your discretion -- though bear in mind any changes would be undone when he is cured.

OKAY two questions about the stuff with starfleet, not the kid plot. :'D

1. I was talking to Gabby about lal's involvement in the overall stuff with Starfleet coming aboard, and I was wondering if running into starfleet now would mess up anything that's in the works?

2. is it too late to sign up to bump into them or get pulled aside if it wouldn't mess things up?
