That's right, 1 year ago TODAY Ten Forward officially opened its doors. Thank you all so much for a great year, for giving us so much to be excited about, and for playing with us. Each and every one of you mean the world to us, and we couldn't have done it without your characters, suggestions, input, and especially your patience. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Here's to making the next year even better!

Oh-ho, but how will we make the next year better, you say? Why, what a marvelous question! How about we start off with some Event Announcements? :O

As part of our new monthly small plot initiative as voted into effect by you guys, some visitors are about to arrive on the Enterprise. Following April's Mirror!verse shenanigans, Starfleet Command has begun to lose faith in Captain Picard's ability to keep Q under control. Representatives from Starfleet and The Department of Temporal Investigations are about to join the Enterprise in a big way, and Q is none too happy about that!

So what does that mean for you? Starting this weekend, you'll start seeing some small, pre-threaded posts popping up in the IC comm. These will set up small events that will occur at an easy, staggered pace for the next several months. These will come with their own OOC plotting & sign-up posts, since they'll be handled by a variety of different players. For now, I'm going to let you know about two of them.

The representatives from Starfleet Command and Temporal Investigations will be arriving on the Enterprise on May 24th, and will spend the next few weeks poking around the ship. During this time, they'll be very interested in the guests aboard who come from strange universes or who possess strange abilities. If you would like your character to have an encounter with these officers, let us know! By interviewing and questioning Q's guests, Starfleet is going to start building a response to the Enterprise's situation, which, of course, is not going to make Q happy. And that means one thing ..... shenanigans.

In honor of our 1 year anniversary, we have chosen the most popular plot as requested by you! Drum roll, please...

WHAT: An Age Regression Plot, based on the episode "Rascals"
WHEN: June 1st - 20th
WHERE: The whole ship
WHO: Opt-in/Opt-out
HOW: Q introduces a strange virus that spreads by physical contact...

Have you ever wanted to relive your childhood? Well now you can! But perhaps not in the way you always imagined it.

While Starfleet reps are poking around the ship, Q is going to act out in his usual fashion and cause some drama. With a sudden click of his fingers, the representatives have now been infected with a virus that affects them all on a molecular level — and what is worse is it's contagious. Within 24 hours of contracting the virus, each character regresses to a physical age of about 12 years. Characters retain their memories and can still reason as adults, but for all intents and purposes they're children again.

Anyone the Starfleet representatives come in physical contact with after Q infects them will also contract the virus. From there, they will be contagious and anyone who comes in contact with them will contract the virus, and so on and so forth. The virus is only passed through physical contact, not through food, water, or breathing in the same air. The infected will appear fairly normal for the first few hours after contact. They will eventually feel very tired and run down, which will likely make them want to go lie down. When they wake up, the physical regression will be complete.

While people all over the ship start turning into children, it is now up to the unaffected to diagnose the problem, develop a vaccine to stop the virus from spreading, and eventually find a cure. Volunteers who are good with medicine, science, and technology will be needed to assist with this process. And what about the infected? Small plot settings and kid-friendly holodeck programs will be provided for maximum playtime shenanigans. Hey, if you're going to be a kid again you might as well take advantage of it, right? And don't worry, the kids can also volunteer to help out and save the day, just as it should be. There are those grumbly Starfleet reps to take care of, after all...

Patient Zero will show up in the Ten Forward lounge on May 31st, with the first few infected with the kid virus showing up in-game on June 1st. The last day you can infect your character with kid virus is June 20th, after which point the volunteers will have found a cure and start administering it to the whole ship. Any fallout from the plot will continue into the following week.

We will have one or two NPCs available for threading out scenes with other characters. Ideally we'd like these NPCs to encounter a few of our guests, particularly ones from unusual worlds or with unusual abilities.

If anyone would like to volunteer for this, we would like our NPC reps to pull characters aside for interviewing or questioning in a private room. If you'd like something less formal, like just bumping into the reps in the lounge, we can do that, too!

The DTI should definitely talk to Alec. Pull him off to talk to. Because he's a walking temporal demensional anomaly.

You’ve mentioned that he is walking temporal dimensional anomaly and this will part of the focus of the interview.

I'd like to volunteer either of my girls for one of the guest interviews. Whichever of them (Sinthia or Noriko) makes more sense to be pulled aside is good by me, I'm equally comfortable threading with them both in the question-and-answer scenario.

I'd be cool with Yuna running into an NPC. Around that age is when she first showed sighs of her magic. I'd say her world counts as unusual.

I have a request on this: I'd like a conversation with Q to infect Tasha between rounds with the Starfleet brass.

Let's be real here:

* Worf being Security Chief of the Enterprise has been great publicity for UFP/Klingon Empire relations - and why ruin that? (She's not, but perception and reality are 2 different things at Starfleet Command.)

* Back from the dead - not "missing" - is a great excuse to poke and prod at Tasha, and whatever official records of her exist, a lot.

* And then there's the things she doesn't know about, but Starfleet Intelligence likely does, like that Tal Shiar agent that looks a lot like her and a rumored cloning program. Maybe even time weapons.

Basically, I want to start to put her through Dante's Inferno here, with your help. No one else has to be goaded in the same way, but I can see this being some long-term, and highly cathartic story fodder for a while to come.

And I might have a character to help with this. My Trek OC is not suited to long term play in 10F's setting, but she has potential to be an "oh, shit," level guest star.

I have this feeling the Starfleet folks will be quite interested in Irian, who is both from an alternate universe and, you know, a Romulan. So I'm up for this!

(As an aside: she will patently refuse to give them any information about the Empire, so there's that. Which could make for an interesting thread.)
