February 29th is Alec’s birthday and to celebrate his leap day birthday he’s decided that it would be fun to play a bit of a prank on the Enterprise with the knowledge that it would likely get blamed on Q. After all very few people aboard the ship know about his reality altering powers that are similar to Q’s. The fact that it’s Leap Day would lead even more credence to the fact that it was Q’s doing as he had a tendency to do interesting things to the passengers and crew on holidays.

Admittedly, he needs better hobbies, but what’s the point of being able to wiggle reality around if you can’t use it?

Information

When will this be happening: From February 29th - March 7th. There will be a post with Alec “kicking things off” but people won’t need to actually reply to the post to be involved. They can say hi to him because it’s his birthday, if they’d like.

What does this mean for your characters? Several things depending on who they are and what they can do.

Does your character have powers of any sort? Then they can lose them entirely or end up with someone else’s powers.

2. Is your character completely powerless? Congrats! Now they’ve got powers! Admittedly they originally belong to someone else and instructions on how to use them might not be included… but hey, powers!

How do I get to join in the shuffling?

Below are three sign up sections.

One for powered people looking to trade powers, one for powered people looking just give away powers and one for people wanting to be placed in a random shuffle.

If there are any people who happen to want powers or want a power trade but there’s not enough people left, they’ll be given random powers from this website as Alec’s reality warping abilities are vast and can do many strange things.

If there are more people who want to lose powers than there are people who want powers then those powers can be lost onto some poor NPC crew member.

3. How long is this going to last? One week. From Feb 29 to March 7

4. I don’t want my powers touched/don’t want to have powers! That’s okay! Alec’s powers just missed you. They’re random after all.

Form of Funness!

For people with powers, please fill out the following form and post it in the appropriate place.

SHE'S AT IT AGAIN.

♥    Amy Pond's Blind Dating Service    ♥

This event is entirely randomized, as it wouldn't be any fun any other way. You can sign up for romance, making new friends, or just meeting people you otherwise might not. Signees will be paired with other characters who have the same interests, and then put on a blind date. What happens then is up to YOU.

OOC sign-ups will go on for a week here in this post, ending sometime Friday morning/afternoon, February 12th. Matches will be announced in the OOC comm that afternoon. There is a form below where you can specify what type of CR you're looking for.

IC, Amy will be in the lounge Wednesday, where she will have signs up advertising the event as a public announcement to anyone who comes into Ten Forward throughout the day. The list of matches will then be published IC Friday night, February 12th, along with a party post where matches can meet.

ETA 2/10/2016: There is now an IC sign-up sheet as well, for anyone who wants to establish their characters as signing up but not necessarily thread with Amy. Or you can leave it OTA so other people can comment on it as they walk by!

What if I can't tag in on Wednesday? Backtags are love, and tags on the IC sign-ups can also be handwaved. This is just to establish IC that Amy is there taking names and talking to people.

What if I miss OOC and IC sign-ups, but still want to participate? The party post will have a top-level for "Going Stag" where singles can hang out at the bar and see if love finds them. If we have enough late arrivals, some last minute matches can be put together as well.

What if my muse isn't interested in Valentine's Day, but I still want to participate? Amy will also be throwing a "Galentine's Day" party in the lounge after all the dates clear out. Any muses who are happily single but who still want the chance at some new CR, a fun party, or a chance to meet a new person with no date obligation attached can tag in here and mingle. Bring dancing shoes.

If you sign-up for a date and then CAN'T participate for any reason, let me know ASAP so I can re-assign the other muse to a new match. The party post will go up Friday and be open all weekend to allow for backtags, so please don't leave your dates hanging!

If you'd like to sign your character(s) up for a blind date, fill out the form below for EACH ONE and Mrs. Pond-Williams will see to it you get matched up with a keeper. Sign-ups will remain open until February 12th.

The witching hour is soon upon us, so what does that all mean for the Enterprise?

The Ghost Host

When hinges creak in doorless rooms, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls...
Whenever candle light flickers when the air is deathly still...
That is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight...
The Ghost Host

WHO: Anyone!
WHAT: Hallowe'en flavored spookiness sprinkled around the ship
WHERE: Shipwide, with standard opt-out options
WHEN: Oct 28th - Nov 3rd

Halloween is coming once more, and this time Q has decided to get into the... spirit... of the season. For a week surrounding Halloween, the Enterprise will be beset by what appears to be strange spirits trying to haunt her passengers. What does this entail? All the best things that a haunting can offer! Passengers can randomly encounter:
☆ Corridors with flickering lights, occasionally going out completely.
☆ Turbolifts stopping and starting randomly.
☆ Spooky noises being heard - creaking and whispering voices, but no one is around...
☆ Shadows flashing across the walls.
☆ Things moving with no one there to touch them.
☆ Catching something out of the corner of the eye, but still nothing is there...
☆ Familiar voices calling your character's name, leading them around the ship on a wild goose chase.
☆ Troubled dreams of departed loved ones, or waking to see ghoulish figures dragging chains around your character's quarters.
☆ Anything else of that nature that suits your fancy!

At the proverbial stroke of midnight, all the strange apparitions will vanish and a pile of candy will appear on the beds of any character who endured a haunting. You can't have a Halloween without your treats after your tricks, after all. Noboday can say Q isn't fair.

And if you don't want to be haunted, your character simply lucks out and misses all the strange happenings. It's a big ship and Q has to keep to a schedule, you know.

Dixon Hill Murder Mystery!

The place: San Francisco, California.
The year: 1941.
It was a dark and stormy night ...

WHO: Captain Picard, Hard-Boiled Detective Shotaro, 4 - 6 volunteers, plus absolutely anyone to make up an "audience"!
WHAT: A very special murder mystery set in the world of the "Dixon Hill" crime noir novels
WHERE: Holodeck 1
WHEN: Oct 31st

To most, Captain Jean-Luc Picard is an immaculate if stern officer, distant and hard to persuade into taking a little time off and socializing. What most don't know is that he has a weakness for a series of 20th century crime noir books written about the detective Dixon Hill. Well, that's all about to change, because Captain Picard is inviting you — yes, you! — to join him in a Dixon Hill adventure on the holodecks. Aided by fellow hard-boiled detective and enthusiast, Shotaro, it promises to be an evening of fun and relaxation in the smoke-in-a-shot-glass charm of 1940s San Francisco.

However...

Unbeknownst to anyone, the charm of the evening is about to be cut short when someone among the group ends up murdered! There has been a malfunction on the holodeck. The program goes off the reservation. The doors lock, and those who find themselves inside the holodeck can no longer get out, neither can those on the outside get in! What was once an evening of fun for your muse ends up becoming a harrowing mystery for all involved, locked in a room with a murderer! But who? How? And who is in on it? Is anyone safe? The questions just keep mounting.

Ideally your hosts OOC (Gabby and Lance) are looking for four to six volunteers to be "suspects" in the mystery. Much like in a dinner theater, you will be provided with character notes for your muses which include clues about the crime, motives to commit the crime, alibis, and so forth. We'll randomly pick volunteers by dice roll so that nobody knows who's guilty and who's not until it all unfolds IC. But that doesn't mean sign-ups stop there! We'll also need muses to be the witnesses, or "audience", unsuspecting bystanders who engage our four to six volunteers in conversation to draw out their secrets and put the clues together in order to solve the mystery. For this role, everyone is invited to join!

On Halloween (that's this Saturday, October 31st in the Eastern US), a party post will go up in the main comm setting the scene where all volunteers and witnesses can mingle. Top-levels will go up as things progress, starting with everyone's arrival and the murder, and ending with the big reveal of who the killer was. In game time, the mystery will last for several hours before characters are freed from the holodeck. OOC, we'll stagger this out over the week to give players enough time to thread and tag around each clue before we move on to the next one.

Expect twists and turns, dark humor, a little 1940s fun, and plenty of opportunities to thread with someone new. If you'd like to sign up to be a suspect or just a witness, click on the link below! Since we're only writing up profiles for 4-6 suspects (based on how many folks actually sign up), not everyone who signs up will get picked. However, we hope everyone will still come play along as witnesses! The success of this mystery is dependent on having lots of people to start up conversations and ask questions. :)

>> SIGN-UP OR RSVP
>> QUESTIONS

But Wait, That's Not All!

Since last year's Día de Muertos party was so popular, we'll be doing it again this year. Expect Q to throw a rousing bash with involuntary costume changes for your muses, music, games, food and drink! More on the festivities will be posted this weekend, and as with all our holiday-themed mini-events backtagging for those busy on the day of the festivities is always love! There will be plenty to celebrate, after all, because soon the Enterprise will be docking at her next planetary stop. More adventure awaits you in November!

Stay tuned! Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel...

You all may remember that Captain Picard, before the arrival of the Department of Temporal Investigations, decided that it was time to get the Enterprise's passengers more involved in shipboard life. If you don't, or if you weren't here, the PL in which it happened is right here.

One of the ways he suggested doing that was getting them involved in shipboard classes!

The Enterprise is a ship with a large civilian complement, which includes families with children. There are, of course, schools on board to cater to their educational needs. Children on board the ship learn subjects such as math, literature, botany, and art.

The Enterprise is about to expand its teaching and learning opportunities.

What does this mean for you?

  • Does your character have something to teach?
The Enterprise is now looking for teachers! This can include standard school subjects like English, Botany, History, or Science. There are also going to be classes specific to the Star Trek world such as Warp Engine Tech. But there's also room for plenty of general interest or more specialized classes. Got an art or craft skill you want to run workshops on? Want to teach self-defence? Music? Dance? Writing? Something else we haven't thought of?

    • What if another character is already teaching a subject yours is interested in teaching?
That's not a problem! Every teacher needs a "substitute" now and then, if they can't make it to class. Sign up for the course you want to teach even if someone else has already done so, and we'll investigate having multiple classes or switching off months.

  • Does your character have something to learn?
Both adult and child characters are welcome to sign up for classes. Obviously, the availability of classes threaded out with a teacher will be dependent on teaching offers from player characters. If there is a class you would like your character to attend and nobody has signed up to teach it, courses can be handwaved by request.

From September, lessons will be run in a single monthly catch-all post that is open for threading, much like our Sickbay and Roommate Mixers. Each teacher will tag in with their subject and classroom, and from there students can tag in to start threading. We'll have a "teachers lounge" and "common room" subthread as well so teachers and students can mingle outside of the classroom. Do you have ideas for something else the post should include? Let us know in the comments!

The first IC school post will go up on September 28th, though it will be open for backtagging into until the next post goes up the following month.

Who likes stupidly spicy food and or watching people eat stupidly spicy food?

You? Your character?

Well let me introduce you to Hell Night Pasta.

Magneto cooks - not just lives off the replicators. Occasionally he'll take what he's made to Ten Forward to eat and be social-ish. Unless someone wants to volunteer, I'm going with an NPC having commented on the spicy food he was eating, prompting him to make something hotter. Much hotter. The Pasta From Hell, brought to us from Man Vs Food, because the mun watches too much Travel Channel.

As they do, one thing lead to another and now he's making a mess of it and letting others challenge their daring and their taste buds.

And Hell Night Pasta comes to the Enterprise.

OOCly, I'll be putting up an OTA log by the 9am EST on the 25th at the latest (perhaps on the 24th if work doesn't kill me dead) for people who want to attempt to eat this literal hot mess. And others who want to watch.

What I'd like to know is who would like to be a part of this. Who wants to try to eat this. Who wants to stand there and stare at people for even trying. Who wants to goad others into take a bite without trying it themselves. Who wants to be goaded into trying it. Who wants to be the kind person with ice cream. Who wants to shake their head and laugh at people trying to prove something. Who wants to get a betting ring going over this, be it for money or some other form of currency going over the victims participants?

A bit ago, the mods and I came up with a plan to help expand story opportunities below decks. To that end - and to keep Worf at his station - Tasha will be assembling, training and leading a team of below decks security personnel.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BEFORE ANSWERING. There will be a thread for questions.

There will be two tiers to this. You are not committed for life to one tier or another, but Tier II is going be more - I guess the word is "involved" - than standard jam-jar fair.

Tier I - Deputies:

You have a talent for investigation, enforcement, infantry, or you'd like to get some, and you're willing to obey what a Starfleet officer tells you to do for a mission now and again? Welcome to Tier I. Picard and Yar will happily deputize you and put you to work for the good of the ship. This is light commitment stuff while still being useful and getting more RP opportunities. You agree to follow Starfleet rules and regulations. You have more access to things around the ship and are generally treated much in the way civilian workers in the military are treated.

These will be recruited in earnest once I know who's up for Tier II.

Tier II - Acting Officers

This is for people who want a story arc for their characters which will give Starfleet responsibilities, commitments, and - let's be real here - headaches. This is a path for characters who are already displaced Starfleet officers OR have at least mixed feelings about going home and want longer-term RP opportunities within the setting by becoming committed officers. Ideally, these will be characters who have or can evolve into a Trek-setting mentality (explorers, Prime Directive, aggressive only if someone truly earned a torpedo in an uncomfortable place, can take orders, etc.) and have some useful security skills. Tasha can train the later. The former is something you will have to ask yourself if you character can really commit to this. Security is command line stuff and Tasha does not want some gun nut to be anywhere near that possibility.

This is going to be a squad of people with their own specialized story bits which will have some at least limited, and probably growing, emphasis on character growth and exposure to Star Trek-like unknown, and Starfleet bureaucracy. The galaxy rewards and punishes people hard and volunteering for this level exposes your character to that. For a clue as to what Acting Officers are expected to do I'm reviewing Wesley's character arc in minute detail and will answer individual questions below. A possibility I've discussed with Gabby is that this kind of path may eventually lead to being a fully ranked commission officer IF the player wants to pursue that - but that's not going to be an easy thing to earn.

Acting officers will outrank the deputies and, should we need a hand, help run security stuff. Just for sanity sake, I'd like a minimum of 2 others and aim for a maximum of 12 at this time, with the understand that thing happen and these numbers could go up or down and players can change their minds.

Minimum age for Acting officers I figure would be 15-ish, again, based on Wesley. Attitude counts for more than skill, but skill is a bonus. You'd report to Tasha, but Picard ultimately is responsible for you. Starfleet officers or cadets are already effectively officers and their help would be readily accepted.

If you volunteer for either Tier I or two, please post below. Also, just so I have a better sense of what you personally are looking for RP-wise and would like to plot for it, can you please explain why you chose the tier you have?

Thank you

That's right, 1 year ago TODAY Ten Forward officially opened its doors. Thank you all so much for a great year, for giving us so much to be excited about, and for playing with us. Each and every one of you mean the world to us, and we couldn't have done it without your characters, suggestions, input, and especially your patience. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Here's to making the next year even better!

Oh-ho, but how will we make the next year better, you say? Why, what a marvelous question! How about we start off with some Event Announcements? :O

As part of our new monthly small plot initiative as voted into effect by you guys, some visitors are about to arrive on the Enterprise. Following April's Mirror!verse shenanigans, Starfleet Command has begun to lose faith in Captain Picard's ability to keep Q under control. Representatives from Starfleet and The Department of Temporal Investigations are about to join the Enterprise in a big way, and Q is none too happy about that!

So what does that mean for you? Starting this weekend, you'll start seeing some small, pre-threaded posts popping up in the IC comm. These will set up small events that will occur at an easy, staggered pace for the next several months. These will come with their own OOC plotting & sign-up posts, since they'll be handled by a variety of different players. For now, I'm going to let you know about two of them.

The representatives from Starfleet Command and Temporal Investigations will be arriving on the Enterprise on May 24th, and will spend the next few weeks poking around the ship. During this time, they'll be very interested in the guests aboard who come from strange universes or who possess strange abilities. If you would like your character to have an encounter with these officers, let us know! By interviewing and questioning Q's guests, Starfleet is going to start building a response to the Enterprise's situation, which, of course, is not going to make Q happy. And that means one thing ..... shenanigans.

In honor of our 1 year anniversary, we have chosen the most popular plot as requested by you! Drum roll, please...

WHAT: An Age Regression Plot, based on the episode "Rascals"
WHEN: June 1st - 20th
WHERE: The whole ship
WHO: Opt-in/Opt-out
HOW: Q introduces a strange virus that spreads by physical contact...

Have you ever wanted to relive your childhood? Well now you can! But perhaps not in the way you always imagined it.

While Starfleet reps are poking around the ship, Q is going to act out in his usual fashion and cause some drama. With a sudden click of his fingers, the representatives have now been infected with a virus that affects them all on a molecular level — and what is worse is it's contagious. Within 24 hours of contracting the virus, each character regresses to a physical age of about 12 years. Characters retain their memories and can still reason as adults, but for all intents and purposes they're children again.

Anyone the Starfleet representatives come in physical contact with after Q infects them will also contract the virus. From there, they will be contagious and anyone who comes in contact with them will contract the virus, and so on and so forth. The virus is only passed through physical contact, not through food, water, or breathing in the same air. The infected will appear fairly normal for the first few hours after contact. They will eventually feel very tired and run down, which will likely make them want to go lie down. When they wake up, the physical regression will be complete.

While people all over the ship start turning into children, it is now up to the unaffected to diagnose the problem, develop a vaccine to stop the virus from spreading, and eventually find a cure. Volunteers who are good with medicine, science, and technology will be needed to assist with this process. And what about the infected? Small plot settings and kid-friendly holodeck programs will be provided for maximum playtime shenanigans. Hey, if you're going to be a kid again you might as well take advantage of it, right? And don't worry, the kids can also volunteer to help out and save the day, just as it should be. There are those grumbly Starfleet reps to take care of, after all...

Patient Zero will show up in the Ten Forward lounge on May 31st, with the first few infected with the kid virus showing up in-game on June 1st. The last day you can infect your character with kid virus is June 20th, after which point the volunteers will have found a cure and start administering it to the whole ship. Any fallout from the plot will continue into the following week.

Valentine's Weekend starts today! In honor of the holiday, your very own sneaky cupid Q will be doing a little omnipotent matchmaking - but no, he won't be putting on the diaper and the downy soft wings. It seems a small vial of Love Potion #9 was "accidentally" knocked over behind the bar, contaminating all of the drinks. If your character only consumes beverages produced by the replicators, you're in the clear; however, if your character orders from the bar, they are doomed to fall head-over-heels for the first person they see after taking their first sip.

Who your character falls for can be pre-arranged or completely random. Have they been working hard on a certain crush? Maybe they'd like to say hi to that cute guy across the room? Or perhaps they've been friends with this one girl forever and need a little push to take the next step? Plot with other players, or leave your posts OTA and go with whoever tags in first!

The effects will last from Friday, February 13th to Friday, February 20th!

♠    he loves me not    ♠

Perhaps omnipotent matchmaking isn't quite your thing, and you would much rather have someone a little more, well, human at the reins. It just so happens Mrs. Amelia Pond finds herself husbandless on Valentine's Day, of all days! Welcome to the inaugural year of Amy Pond's Blind Dating Service!

This event is entirely randomized, as it wouldn't be any fun any other way. You can sign up for romance, making new friends, or just meeting people you otherwise might not. OOC sign-ups will go on for a week here in this post, ending sometime on Friday, February 20th. Matches will be announced in the OOC comm that night. We will have a form in the comments section below where you can specify what type of date you're looking for. IC, Amy will have a post on Valentine's Day (that's this Saturday in the USA) where she will publicly announce her intentions and take IC sign-ups. The list of matches will then be published IC next Saturday, February 21st, along with a party post where dates can meet.

♣    we are never ever ever ever getting back together    ♣

Both of these plots sound like fun, but... What if you have a crotchety character who doesn't want to get involved? What if your character is too shy? Or maybe you are newly apped and haven't met any other characters yet? We have prepared a list of random scenarios to help your characters, in the same vein as a meme. We call this the "Date Gone Wrong" Plot Twist.

Your character(s):
(1) ...are locked in a closet together, or stuck in a malfunctioning turbolift for hours. What do they do?
(2) ...are forced to write and recite a love song/poem for their date. Do they go off the cuff, or spend hours making sure it's perfect?
(3) ...accidentally end up with the wrong date. Did that card say table 9 or table 6?
(4) ...are stood up. Well, that was rude! Here you got dressed to the nines and they didn't even have the courtesy to cancel! But they seek you out later, extremely penitent. Do you give them a second chance?
(5) ...have a friend sign you up. You think you're meeting your best pal for drinks, but they actually signed you up for a blind date and didn't tell you.
(6) ...get set up with your enemy. Of all the people you could have been matched with, why them? What's worse is you have to play nice through the whole date.
(7) ...make an embarrassing declaration. Was this a bad time to admit I'm pregnant?
(8) ...leave the bar. This formal date scene just isn't for them, so you hit up a replicator for a couple cheeseburgers and go on an adventure. Where do you end up?
(9) ...don't go on a date, but when they get back to their room they find flowers, chocolate, champagne - is it a secret admirer? Who could have done this?
(10) ...end up having a very successful date, and scoot off to find someplace more, ahem, private. Who could have anticipated the anti-grav chamber would be such a bad spot for sex?

These plot twists can be played with either of the events listed above, or a la carte if you have bigger and better ideas. Because they are random, their causes can be mysterious, blamed on the love potion, blamed on Q - remember, you're in space. Weird things happen.

  MARDI GRAS

Tuesday, February 17th, is Mardi Gras! Mardi Gras (also known as Fat Tuesday), is part of the Carnival celebrations, and serves as a good excuse to dress up, eat and drink rich foods, and have a good time. In honor of the holiday, Q (who is stunned humans could ever come up with such a fun celebration!) will transform Ten Forward into a bright and colorful party scene. Any food your character could possibly want, even if it's something the crew or the computers have never heard of before, will be available for feasting. Those who enter Ten Forward on Tuesday will be graced with costumes and carnival masks of the mun's choosing, as well as Mardi Gras beads. The beads will appear in strings around your character's neck, and throughout the day your character can give their beads to other characters as a symbol of attraction, friendship, or honor for some sort of accomplishment. Depending on what country you're from, Mardi Gras celebrations are all a little different, so please bring your country's favorite celebrations out on Tuesday for a little good fun! All effects will disappear by Wednesday.

You have all been waiting patiently, and the day is finally here. As of this post, we are kicking off our first game-wide plot. Whatever happened to the mission the Enterprise was engaged in before Q intervened? Picard helpfully explains. In the interests of getting this mission back on track, you'll notice some things happening in the next few weeks.

>> Today, July 15: OOC Sign-ups happen right now, as of this post
>> Friday, July 18: IC Q returns engines to normal functions, the ship continues on its journey
>> Tuesday, July 22: OOC Sign-ups close, mods begin on character assignments
>> Thursday, July 24: OOC players are contacted with their assignments and further details
>> Friday, July 25: IC game plot begins with an arrivals post for Alemar III

Normal ship interactions will continue up until the 25th, including room assignments and med checks for all the new characters from the July application period. This plot will run for three in-game days, but be staggered in real time to allow for backtagging. It is entirely optional; if you do not wish to participate, simply keep your character on the Enterprise. If you do wish to participate, keep reading for more information.
