Our latest Sickbay log is now up and open for business. This month we have Dr. Beverly Crusher as CMO, and she will be assisted by her medical team of crackerjack medical professionals.

If you're new to the game, it's standard Enterprise procedure to quarantine those who have winked onto the ship until they can be checked for any terrible space diseases. Your character will be required to visit Sickbay for a standard check-up and a vaccine if necessary. Tagging in is optional and can be done at your leisure; if you prefer to handwave your character getting the all-clear from the docs, that is allowed. If you are tagging in, specify the name of the doctor you want in the subject line of your tag, and they'll tag you as soon as they're available. If you haven't made your IC Intro yet and would prefer to do that first, please feel free to backtag on the Sickbay log whenever it is convenient for you. It will remain open as long as there is a need for it. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page.

Once your character has been cleared medically, they'll be released from quarantine, assigned permanent rooms, and allowed to move more freely around the ship. Restricted areas are, of course, still off-limits (such as the bridge, engine rooms, conference rooms, etc). Everyone passes through Sickbay once they arrive. Rooming assignments will be posted tomorrow, and the IC Rooming Mixer will go up on Sunday.

End of March Plots!

It's the Spring Equinox for many of us in the northern hemisphere, and you didn't think we'd let March go out like a plotless little lamb, did you? ;)

ETA: An IC kick-off post is now live in the main comm!

Happy Father's Alien Abduction Day!

Today, March 20th, is International Alien Abduction Day, and with Father's Day having just passed (in parts of Europe and South America, don't worry America you still have 3 months to pick out the perfect tie for your pappy), Q has decided to show how much of a loving and kindly individual he really is and to get people to stop grumbling about how they miss their families.

For one week starting today and ending next Sunday, characters will have the chance if they so choose to talk to their fathers, or father-like figures. This can either be done using the comms system (pictured above), rather like a Facetime or Skype (or universe equivalent feature) conversation, no matter where or when the father exists. Why? Maybe there's some unresolved business between your character and their father. Maybe your character just wants to talk to them one last time...

For characters whose fathers are dead or don't exist in a time period with such technology, the holodecks will create a simulation of their father to interact with. (This will be a real conversation and not just a ghostly apparition, much like in the Superman franchise when Kal-El and Kara are allowed to talk to their deceased parents via hologram).

If your character has absolutely no desire to speak with their father, they may be treated to another glimpse into Father's Day... of the future... by speaking to what could be your character's future child. Just call Q the Ghost of Christmas Future. Possible future children will likewise appear to interact with your character via the holodeck simulations.

When this is done, characters who decide to give Q a Father's Day gift in return will be granted one wish, as long as it's a reasonable wish. So that means no wishing to return home, having someone else show up on the ship, deadly or rule-breaky items. This post is where your characters can make their Father/Aliens's Day wishes, and if Q deigns to grant their wish it will come true next Sunday, March 27th.

Two important notes: 1) since it is a Father's Day phone call, your characters will only be able to speak with their fathers. 2) once the comm/holodeck simulation ends, your character will not be able to bring it back up again. Q is bending the rules of space and time just for this one week.

WHO: Anyone can participate or not, as they choose!
WHAT: Q enabling daddy issues!
WHERE: The entire ship, including personal quarters and holodecks (or anywhere comm systems can be accessed)
WHEN: From today (20 March 2016) to next Sunday (27 March 2016)

Spring Equinox, Planetside!

Spring is in the vacuum? air! Flowers are blooming, birds are calling, all those pesky pheromones are in the air - but not all is hunky-dory for the Federation. Tonight, the Enterprise will receive a call for assistance from a Federation colony whose crops are failing, and who need the help of the ship's complement to recover before deadly consequences ensue. Luckily, the Enterprise just stopped at Pacifica on that botany mission, and happens to be carrying many seedlings, seeds, and helpful equipment the doomed settlement desperately needs. Not to mention, most importantly of all, people with skills and interests in planting.

The timeline will look something like this - the Enterprise will make landfall tonight, and the first characters who wish to help will be beamed ashore in the morning. With this plot, characters will be helping out with manual labor - tilling soil, maybe pulling weeds, et cetera. Anyone who decides to do so will be given an equinox-themed gift at the end of the plot - like a plant they helped grow, a basket of chocolate eggs, et cetera. What your characters end up with is up to you - so long as it's Spring-themed!

All volunteers who choose to spend the week helping in whatever capacity they can will receive their gift at the end of the week, before the Enterprise shoves off to commence with April's plots. Whatever healthy plants are left will be brought to a nearby space station to supplement their greenhouses, and while there the Enterprise may be picking up a few more things...

WHO: Anyone can participate or not, as they choose!
WHAT: Good Samaritan-ing, with gifts for their good behavior
WHERE: All happening in one settlement on the planet, free rein in the botany labs is granted!
WHEN: From tomorrow (21 March 2016) to next Monday (28 March 2016) with a few days buffer to wrap things up before April

So now we know. Klingons are not gossips

The IC New Passenger Orientation + Roommate Mixer is now up in the main comm! This post is considered OTA; new characters can meet their new roommates and explore their quarters, and old characters can meet the neighbours or open their quarters for visitors. If you have any questions or see any errors with the list, drop us a note in the comments!

If you missed the memo and you're confused about the New Passenger Orientation (IC Tour of the ship), this is for players wondering how much about the ship their characters would know. This is not for tagging into, and is only meant as a brief primer. If you need more IC info, you can poke us here and arrange for a thread.

Here are a few informational links again:
Some more details about the guest quarters/IC rules
The list of all Room Assignments and Decks
The original OOC announcement
Player Contact Post [locked to the comm]
and A detailed description and images of the quarters.

Have fun meeting people, old and new alike!

Hey guys! We just wanted to remind everyone that with the end of the Pacifica visit last Tuesday, we are wrapping up the problem plant plot. Since the effect will be spreading throughout the ship, even if you joined us since we have departed you are welcome to play along. Details can be found here!

Our IC Party Post/Wrap-Up is right over here, which is divided into headers for infection, research, experimentation, and the containment of the plants. There is also some additional information about the plants brought back from Pacifica, their effects, the botany lab, and hopefully everything else you will need to play along. Tag in and thread-hop around as people are affected.

You are also welcome to thread this out in your own posts if you want. The effects are temporary and after a few days IC to clear out the pollen, all characters will return to normal. But while the effects of the pollen might not last long, the effects of what you said or did and to whom... well... that's on you.

As usual, this plot is opt-in/opt out, and you are welcome to join in, or not, as you see fit. Either way, have fun! And be happy! In a day or two a conclusion thread will be added to the party post just to officially wrap up any lingering loose ends. Hit us with questions if you've got them!

Reserves are now open for March! They will remain open until 11:59PM EST (GMT-5) on Monday, February 29th, after which apps will open.

Our latest list of rooming assignments for February is going up this week. All new applicants from this period will be randomly assigned to a room with a roommate, unless your character has special considerations (such as an in-game significant other or family member they need to be roomed with, or a temperament/physiology that requires them to room alone). Note that we will be doing a Rooming Shuffle following AC to reassign anyone who loses a roommate due to a drop, at which point anyone who needs a reassignment can request one, but if your character isn't on the list right now and you think they should be, just let us know!

Below the cut is a list of everyone who's being assigned a roommate this period.

This month's random hat includes: )

We'll have a finalized list posted soon, but if we have overlooked anything, adjustments can continue to be made until the IC roommate mixer goes up this Monday. If you see any glaring errors or omissions, just let us know. Starfleet officers may be given VIP quarters, but they still get a roommate unless otherwise specified. Our master list of rooms and roommates is located here.

ETA The Finalized List )

An IC roommate mixer post will go up on Monday evening, to give people time to make any IC Intros still pending or to review this list. We'll continue to make adjustments to this list up to that point, if there are any errors. Some information on rooms can be located here. Feel free to hit us with any questions in the meantime!

February 2nd: The Enterprise arrives at Pacifica, and remains there for two weeks
February 6th: Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta get married (events on Pacifica as well as in Ten Forward lounge)
February 8th and 9th: Holiday Events for Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday
February 12th through 14th: Valentine's Day events!
February 20th: Party post goes up to resolve lingering effects of February's plots
February 29th: Classes continue on the Enterprise with a new school post, and it's Leap Day!

After a relatively uneventful winter season, the Enterprise is finally making port again—at the beautiful ocean planet of Pacifica! It's the perfect place to hold an event, such as the wedding of two passengers, Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta. Scientists and botanists on board will enjoy many strange and beautiful new forms of plantlife, one of which has some interesting effects on people's moods ... not that anyone realizes this until some plants have been brought aboard for study, some weeks after the ship has left the planet. It's also a month of festivals and holidays, a chance to make a new love connection (or a new friendship), and for new passengers it's a trial by fire as strange things seem to happen one right after another all month long...

Pacifica, the "jewel of the galaxy", is a beautiful ocean planet renowned for its warm blue waters and fine white beaches. Some even say it rivals Risa as the ideal place for a holiday, a special event, or a secret rendezvous. The Enterprise's purpose there is peaceful, while the Captain tends to some diplomatic matters and the scientists aboard do a little research into the local flora, so passengers are invited to disembark, enjoy the beaches, visit the Submersible Research Institute and other "floating cities", and meet some of the locals (perhaps even swimming with some of the planet's aquatic life).

Read More about Pacifica at Memory Beta.

While there, botanist and current head of the biology lab, Keiko O'Brien is excited to disembark and collect some samples. There is a beautiful and unusual plant growing all over the land where passengers of the Enterprise have disembarked, and when in bloom it sends off a pollen that appears to affect the way passengers are acting... everyone just goes 'hippy' and has to tell everyone they're just plain super, just because they are. There is an odd compulsion to pick flowers, hand them out to others, and talk about peace, love, and good vibes. Angry characters are super chill; peaceful characters are really confused, but with hugs and love suddenly running amok with everyone, at least nobody gets hurt.

Things will get really interesting when Keiko, unaware that the sudden increase of peace and happiness is caused by the blooming plants, brings a few on board to study, and the pollen starts making its way through the Enterprise's filtration systems. Suddenly people who haven't even been on the planet start feeling the love, too! The effects of the love plant will last until February 20th, at which point a Lab log will be posted and all botanists, scientists, and other interested parties will be invited to tag and research the effects of the plant — with freedom to experiment on other technicians and volunteers, by their own arrangement.

During this love fest, Amy Pond will be hosting another Blind Dating Event! Like last year's event, an OOC sign-ups post will go up independent of this post, players will be randomly paired up by dice roll to other characters looking for similar interactions, and these can be relationships, friendships, or hook-ups. A party-style post will go up on February 12th, giving the whole weekend for dating shenanigans.

Additionally, February 8th and 9th are the Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday, respectively. Then again on February 29th, it will be one of our rare archaic Leap Days. Players can look forward to some interesting surprises on these days, courtesy of Q. What surprises are those? You'll have to refresh the main comm on the mornings of to find out...

**Additional small plots may crop up throughout the month for extra fun, so keep your eyes open for event posts in the OOC comm as they happen. Mods and volunteers have been busily at work thinking up new things to bring to Ten Forward.**

Our IC classes aboard the Enterprise are now open for tagging! For more information, check out the OOC announcement/sign-ups.

☆ An IC school post will go up once monthly, and can be tagged & backtagged into until the next one goes live!
☆ If you are handwaving attending a class or have special arrangements with one of the teachers, you can drop the players a line in the sign-ups post.
☆ When posting in as a teacher, please put the name of your class/course in the subject line of your tag, that way it will be easy for players to find!
☆ There are Teachers Lounge and Student Common Room top-levels for characters to mingle outside the classroom setting; if there is need for other top-levels outside the classroom (ie: a Detention area, Nurses area, Clubs/After-School Activities, etc.) leave us a suggestion here and we'll add it!
☆ If you are unable to post in this month for whatever reason, handwaving attendance is fine, though we always encourage posting around to make new CR!

If you have any other questions or suggestions, let us know. Have fun, everyone! :D

Hello, everyone!

Our latest IC New Passenger Orientation + Roommate Mixer is now up in the main comm, but with a bit of a holiday twist! Read on under the cut for the skinny.

Room Assignments, Holiday Open House, and Q )

---

Don't forget that it is the end of the month, and that means: Reserves will be CLOSING and Apps will be OPENING tonight! In light of the holiday, we'll be opening apps an hour early at 11pm EST (GMT-5), and we'll leave them open until January 8th! You are not required to reserve with us in order to app, but it does help the process along.

A New TDM? If you're looking to test a voice out before making a commitment or need someplace to put a writing sample together, last month's Test Drive Meme is STILL OPEN! Please make a note to check the post for new potential applicants with fresh threads, and feel free to use this post until January ATP runs near the end of the month. We will have a fresh TDM up for the new year then.

---

Remember, [community profile] ten_fwd_meme posts fresh memes every Monday now, so if you haven't been watching the comm feel free to stop by and participate! There's no deadline on any meme, particularly not the most recent Love Memes, so if you were away and feel like you may have missed your chance, banish the thought! There's always time for more love.

If there is a meme you would like to see the comm do, we have a suggestion box set up for just that purpose. Anyone can post to the comm with their ideas. Since it's the end of the year, we'll be due for a new HMD and handwaved CR meme coming up pretty soon, so keep an eye out for that and more things to come!

---

AC Reminders: AC will run January 10th – 23rd, which will be the Sunday following apps. If you are unsure of what the AC requirements are, take a look at our AC reminders post from our last activity check. All proofs of activity must be in posts dated after July 25th to qualify. December applicants are exempt from January AC.

Because of AC, there will be no Check-In tomorrow. Our next Check-In will happen March 1-7. If you have any questions at all, please let us know!

---

That's all from us for now! Look for more updates in the coming days, as it's looking to be a busy first week of January for us here at Ten Forward. And please be patient with us through any kinks you may pick up on, as we're slowly training new volunteers and settling into a new rhythm behind-the-scenes. As always, if you have ANY concerns or questions, e-mail us at tenforwardmods [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks, everyone! Have a safe and happy New Year!

Rooming Assignments!

[personal profile] ten_fwd_mods
Our latest list of rooming assignments for November applicants is here! As we did a CR shuffle this month, we have created a new section for family-sized suites on Deck 8 adjacent to other guest quarters. According to what we've dug up under Enterprise specs, family suites are basically the size of two normal-sized rooms pushed together, typically 2 bedrooms joined by a family room (like how we've laid out guest quarters so far). This design is usually for two adults and their children. We'll be updating our FAQ and Info pages relevent to rooms on board to reflect this new provision for characters with families aboard the ship, but in the meantime please feel free to ask us any questions and review the image below (as an example of what a suite would look like).

[Image from Ex Astris Scientia; we'll move a more permanent image to TF's own hosting site
when we update the relevant pages. For another similar example, click here for a layout of
Chief O'Brien's quarters, which fit he, his wife, and their child.]

Now, on to this month's assignments! If we have overlooked anything, adjustments can continue to be made until the IC roommate mixer goes up. That is currently scheduled for Thursday to give everyone time to review their new assignments.

All new applicants from this period will be assigned to a room with a roommate, unless your character has special considerations (such as an in-game significant other or family member they need to be roomed with, or a temperament/physiology that requires them to room alone).

At this time, we're also shuffling up some of the rooms who have lost a roommate due to a character drop, gained a significant other or family member through a late app, or need a reassignment for any other reason. We'll do this approximately quarterly to three times a year as new characters shuffle in and old ones shuffle out. If you would like to switch up your rooming situation, this post is your last chance to drop us a line and let us know. We'll either put your character into the random hat and pair them up with a new roomie by dice roll, or if you have a special consideration like those listed above we'll take them into account.

Shuffling is totally optional, so if you don't make a request to do so then you will stay right where you are, no muss no fuss. To reduce confusion, below the cut is a list of everyone who's being assigned a roommate this period OR who may be switching rooms. If your character isn't on the list and you think they should be, just let us know! You can also choose to have your character switch things up if you'd like more CR! Again, just let us know.

This month's random hat includes: )

We'll have a finalized list posted soon, but if we have overlooked anything, adjustments can continue to be made until the IC roommate mixer goes up. If you see any glaring errors or omissions, just let us know. Starfleet officers may be given VIP quarters, but they still get a roommate unless otherwise specified. Our master list of rooms and roommates is located here.

An IC roommate mixer post will go up on Sunday evening, to give people time to make any IC Intros still pending or to review this list. We'll continue to make adjustments to this list up to that point, if there are any errors. Some information on rooms can be located here. Feel free to hit us with any questions in the meantime!

CANON EVENT: "Darmok" plot, during the Enterprise's time on Folnar III

After some rather harrowing events on the Enterprise, including visions of dead loved ones, spooky sounds and visions, and in particular the accidental murder of the ship's captain* in what was supposed to be a holodeck simulation, passengers' frayed nerves are soothed by a festive party in Ten Forward and the ship docking planetside, where the antsy and eager to explore can finally stretch their legs. Unfortunately for some, the trip planetside won't be a relaxing vacation, as passengers are being abducted to play in a grisly game. For those who stay aboard the Enterprise it's not all sunshine and bunnies, either — it's baseball and cats! Two player plots invite you to have some peanuts and crackerjacks, and think about pet adoption.

NOTE: Our Día de Muertos party was mislabeled with an OOC note saying it wasn't open for tags. It is, in fact, a party post! It has now been edited to express that a little more clearly, and we apologize for the misinformation. Your characters are free to tag in, mingle, make candy skulls, play cards, or just gripe about their ridiculous costumes. You know how Q loves a good costume!

Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday traditionally celebrated in central and southern Mexico on November 1 & 2. Even though this coincides with All Saint's Day, it's actually different from any Halloween celebrations. Based on the ancient beliefs of honoring one's deceased loved ones, the idea is that happy spirits will provide protection, good luck, and wisdom to their families — and of course the dead still like to party! The spread Q has laid out in Ten Forward includes music, card games, dancing, and lots of food. Raise a toast to someone your character has lost, or just come for the party. And it wouldn't be a Q party if silly costumes weren't involved.

The ship has kept sailing, and has now been called to action at the planet Folnar III. It will dock there this evening, November 2nd, and will remain there until Sunday, November 29th. The ship's mission is a peaceful one — while the Federation has been aware of Folnar III for several decades now, it's only just joined the Federation — peaceful talks, treaties, and negotiations need to take place. Bo-ring! as Q would say. The good news is that while the senior staff are occupied in these talks, everyone else is free to explore the planet.

Its varied landscape provides a number of places someone could go. Explore the rivers, the mountains, the lush fields; marvel at the Folnar Jewel Plant, so named because it secretes a resin that hardens into a beautiful gemstone. The local fauna is just as remarkable as its plant life. Or stay close to one of the cities, where there are opportunities to shop, barter, eat unusual foods, and meet some of the locals. While Folnar III isn't a poor planet, its cities are modest and the people suffer from the usual worries of having enough food and medicines. Perhaps the Enterprise can help with that...

While the planet is lovely and the cities are safe for the most part, there is a rogue among you. Someone likes to abduct people for sport, pitting them against one of Folnar III's most terrible creatures ... which brings us to our latest plot based off of the Star Trek canon. This time the inspiration comes from the episode "Darmok".

Darmok Event. Your character has been abducted! While on Folnar III, a transporter beam not belonging to the Enterprise has whisked your character away from where they were and deposited them in a rural part of the planet many kilometers from the nearest city. You aren't alone — one of the other Enterprise passengers has also been taken, and is just as surprised as you are to be there. To make matters worse, it's not a passenger you get along well with, and you soon discover that the translation field Q has provided has been knocked out of service. Assuming you don't speak the same language, you now can't understand a thing the other person is saying!

You would think being stranded on an alien planet far from civilization with someone you can't work with would be bad enough, but that's not the rogue's only game. One of Folnar III's more deadly creatures is trying to make mince meat out of you both, and you have got to find a way to work together to ward this monster off long enough for someone to come rescue you!

This plot is available only to players who opt in. If you do not, then don't worry! You will remain far from the lonely part of the planet where this creature resides. You don't know this, but you are being remotely watched as you struggle to survive for the entertainment of the rogue who took you and any who pay to watch along (someone please keep the Hunger Games cast away from this, jfc). The scattering field that took out the universal translator has also taken out transporters, so the Enterprise cannot beam you to safety. You will be marooned overnight until someone can collect you. So you better start making friends, and figure out how to fight that creature together. The episode synopsis on Memory Alpha imparts this gem about the story: "Dathon's hope was that by facing a common enemy, the two sides could learn to understand one another and bring the two species closer together."

Players can plot amongst themselves to decide who wants to get marooned together (this is helpful if your character has an enemy you want this kind of CR with), or you can tag in with interest in playing out this plot and let a random player find you (or the mods can assign duos). This can happen at any time the ship is docked at Folnar III, so there won't be an IC event post for this plot; once you've got a partner to get marooned with, you can make your own post to play out these events.

For those looking for something a little less intense, smaller plots will be happening on the Enterprise while she's docked at Folnar III. Steve Rogers is hosting a baseball game on the holodecks on Wednesday, November 4th! Sign-ups are still open, so you'll want to visit the player's plotting post for more information and updates.

Then, starting on the 15th, Q is at it again! One of the ship's newest members, Shadow, is longing for his pet cats. That doesn't seem like such a bad thing, until you realize that he has more than 30 pet cats! Because Q is so magnanimous, he will be porting Shadow's 30 cats onto the Enterprise. Cats, cats, everywhere! It's a kitty invasion! These pet felines will be all over the ship for two weeks. Halfway through, Shadow will open up opportunities for your character to adopt a pet if they so choose. All of his cats are healthy, vaccinated, and come with collars and tags (and yes, they all have their own unique names). They're pet ready to go to a good home. Any who are not adopted by the 28th will be sent back to Shadow's world, and Spot will continue to reign as lord cat of the Enterprise.

**Additional small plots may crop up throughout the month for extra fun, so keep your eyes open for event posts in the OOC comm as they happen.**

(Responseible mod, Mod JK, apologises for the delay in getting school up and hopes you all have extra fun to make up for it!)
