TEST DRIVE #6 - The Bridge and Ten Forward

Option 01. Ten Forward: The first thing you see is a bar. A large, lively bar filled with many different faces and many different smells, sights and sounds. This is Ten Forward, the Enterprise's off-duty lounge; feel free to get acquainted with your fellow travelers and try to find somebody who's in charge: this is your new home now, after all...

Option 02. The Bridge: Well, aren't you a lucky duck? You've found yourself in hallowed quarters. Wherever you were before, you're not there anymore. Now you're in a room that could be some kind of command center or control room; there's a captain's chair flanked by seats for his chief officers, computer panels and stations at each interior wall, and before you a broad viewscreen that shows the wide expanse of space rushing towards you. Have you ever wanted to be a starship captain for a day? Well, here's your chance. Feel free to roam around, but try not to touch anything shiny.
[OOC: The Bridge isn't usually available for in-game posts, so if you've ever wanted to play there, here's your chance!]
I blame migraines for everything. Even cat vomit.
He flicks a glance out the window at the mention of astronomy.]
She'd probably love to be here then. And sort of? Step-daughter?
Sounds like a good plan.
I don't doubt she would.
Genetically she's mine.
[ There's a certain finality to it - it's not a refusal to talk about it, it's just a very long story. ]

[One has to wonder about Alec's experiences that illegitimate child is the last thing he comes up with.]
((ooc: I hate that Polaris is Magneto's daughter. Because God forbid two people with similar powers aren't related. I mean not all telepaths are related to each other...though the Summers-Grey family leaves one to wonder...))
no subject
[ It doesn't even seem odd to Magneto, which is also telling. ]
(( OOC: I don't MIND it, so long as Magneto's character isn't butchered over it. Notice, he's never claimed Susanna as a lover, save HoM and that doesn't count. I have my theories about her, which the preHoM Excalibur outlined. ))
no subject
[He's speaking from experience here.]
I guess that leaves things like child from another reality... which is... not fun... or experiment like things. Maybe a thought child...
But, it seems like you're willing to have a relationship with her and acknowledge the ... at least genetic bond between you. Not many people would do that. Which is nice. Good of you.
((ooc: I can get on board with that. I've been sort of out of the X-Men fandom for a bit. And yeah, I do remember the HoM thing, which was fun crack... Was she in Excalibur? I thought she was mostly X-Factor?))
no subject
[ Who wouldn't go after someone Magneto cares about to hurt him? ]
She's from our reality. Or at least she was born there, her mother may not be.
[ He hadn't actually considered that one before. ]
I would acknowledge her regardless if she were my kin or not - we have similar powers, I wouldn't want her to stumble through them alone. But regardless, she is mine, and I do try to be a father.
(( OOC: She wasn't. He was. The Genoshan Excalibur. ))
no subject
I suppose there's no way to know if her mother was from this reality or the next unless you talked to her. Which then leads to all sorts of fascinating questions. If her mother wasn't born in your reality, why or how did she come to yours. It's possibly an accident because you'd think if someone was trying to follow her they'd have made themselves known by now... unless they just wanted to kill her and didn't care about the baby...
[Alec likes spinning theories. The crazier the better.]
I wish I had someone like that both with my powers and my parents.
[He's a little bit wistful there because honestly... it's kinda sucked in that department.]
((ooc: aaah! Too many Excaliburs.))
no subject
[ He both cares and doesn't - it matters less where the child came from than her existing. ]
Everyone should have that.
[ It's gentle, and not sympathetic so much as empathic. He'd done this all alone, after all. ]
(( MARVEL. :| But yeah I have an entire theory. I just need to scan that issue to explain it. ))

[For a second it looks like Alec is going to say one thing but then his eyes widen like he'd gotten hit on the head by a hammer.]
You know what? I've completely forgotten to introduce myself. My name's Alec.
no subject
[ For various reasons. ]
It's quite all right. Erik. It's nice to meet you Alec.
no subject
I've gotten my own name misspelled enough to ask these things.
no subject
[ Which is where his actually came from, but that was beside the point. ]
Yours?
must hit post comment to post tag. ><
[Still, Alec enjoyed learning those sort of things. It made life interesting.]
'C'. It's actually Alexander, but when I was little my sister and I never made it past Alec for a long while. It sort of stuck.
[The way he says Alexander (Alec'zander) makes it sound like it Alec would be the natural shortening as opposed to Alex. Accents are fun!]
*snort* I was wondering. But I've done that.
[ And was his beloved uncle's name. Details. ]
Older or younger sister?
[ He's careful as he asks, the question gentle. But he nods at the explanation. English was far from his first language, accents were interesting. ]
And then I had a massive migraine and just diiied so I couldn't check
[The devil is in the details. Though Alec would love to know that. He loves that sort of stuff. His own accent is reminiscent of Welsh mixed with something else.]
Older. By ten minutes... or nineteen years...
[The question doesn't bother him. He rolls his eyes in annoyance.]
Ten minutes and a day, sort of. She was born about five minutes before midnight and I was born five minutes after on the leap day. So, technically, I've only had four birthdays to her twenty-three. As she enjoys reminding me on occasion.
[The leap day in Alec's world comes once every five years instead of four like on Earth. Also, there are never two people more mature than siblings discussing details about their past.]
I had one of those the beginning of the week, they suck
[ German was bitter, hard and rough and cold and dry in his mouth. It was still the first two languages he spoke, and on his good days, he was fond of it. ]
You know for a minute I thought you were going to say stasis was involved.
[ What does that say? ]
Whoever invented migraines should feel all of them at once. :|
Probably because they're so cold they're making hacking noises from all the phlegm in their throats and it crept into the language.
[He grins. Though at the stasis question Alec does get an honestly thoughtful look on his face.]
Stasis and accelerated growth... because something would have to compensate for the fact that we still look the same age.
[They've lived some very strange lives... because Alec honestly is entertaining the possibilities of that.]
Seriously. It was one of those "is this a mirgraine or a stroke" deals too
Also easier to shout over the vast frozen steepes.
[ There are some ways to tell - it doesn't put the same age on bones that normal growth does - but Magneto has neither the powers or tools currently to tell. ]
There are many explanations. Does that happen with other siblings or unique to your family?
ugh. Mine was just "let me die". Payment for being outside without sunglasses
He knew building a government free utopia underwater was a bad idea... but did anyone listen to him? Nooo...]Where it's generally cold, so you end up hoarse from yelling, which leads to phlegm.
Does what happen with other siblings? Her thinking you can freeze fire... no... wait.... idioms... harder in Russian... her being a nitwit?
[Because Alec doesn't realize Erik is talking about stasis and growth.]
Yeah I never do that either.
and being "dead", so it's almost fun. ]It's an incredibly vicious cycle yes. Their lot to bear.
[ He laughs. ]
No, that's normal, I know. The grow pattern - in your home world. Siblings with large age gaps who don't appear to have one.
not even a minute walk... what could it hurt I thought...
[There's a long pause from Alec as he parses what Erik has to say. It's a bit harder to do it while speaking in Russian.]
Oh! Oh! ... No. No... no... there's no age gap. We're both twenty three... it's just that my birthday ... the physical date... it's on the equivalent of February 29th and she's on February 28th. It's just that... the circumstances that gave me my abilities have made my personal time line a wibbly wobbly mess. Only seconds pass on my world while I can spend lifetimes in other worlds. So. I spend three hours here. Another two years somewhere else. Come back home and no one knows I've been gone.
[He thinks that's what Erik is asking about.]
A lot, clearly.
[ though he prefers wine. ]
So is the apparent lack of aging due to your only partially being in other worlds, or do you simply have an uncommonly long life span?
[ Well hello powers talk again. ]
Clearly. :/
[Alec isn't particular, really.]
It's because of being only partially in other worlds. It also means I can't die. Ever. At all. It just ... doesn't stick.
[He's not happy about this. There's nothing quite like knowing you're going to out live everyone you ever know...]
They don't know that.
some of us are meant to be noturnal
[ Remember what he said about feeding vices? ]
I'm sorry for that. No one who truly understands what it is to live forever would want to.
[ Says the man who's beginning to understand just how long he's going to live. ]
Apparently. XD
[Yup.]
Yeah. Never understood that. I guess they don't really know what it means. I've talk to my older self occasionally... he goes ... I go... completely around the bend once my world dies. It's like everything that was... that holds me back from being a rat bastard vanishes when that happens.
[They should start a support group. Immortals/really long lived people who realize how sucky it is support.]
