TEST DRIVE #2 - The Holodeck/Ten Forward

Where were you a minute ago? Well, you aren't there anymore. Instead, you're standing in a very large, dark room lined with yellow. There are doors at either end of it.

Here's where things get a little choose your own adventure-y. You could:



1: Approach a console filled with buttons, located a few feet away. Press one, and it'll let you out of the room. Travel down a long hallway and you'll be in Ten Forward, the Enterprises' entertainment lounge. Have a drink, mingle and try to figure out why you're here.

OR

2: Maybe you just muttered some vague request under your breath. Maybe you wished aloud you were somewhere else. Or for help? If you did, might be in a fire station. Muttered something about killing whoever dumped you here? Surprise - you're in a slasher movie!

Though they're confusing, these visions feel about as real as they can be. And guess what - other people can experience those fantasies with you, as if they too were really there. How ever will you escape? Or do you want to?

[OOC: Welcome to the Holodeck! If you choose this option, whatever your character chooses to say out loud will cause a virtual reality program to load and play. While your character feels as if what they're experiencing and seeing is quite real, they're purely living through the latest and best in what he Enterprise has to offer in entertainment. Make sure to detail what your character's fantasy is, so that those threading with them will know how to react.

"Wow. Until today, I'd never been outside my town let alone the country. What's Austria like?"

Henry had had a quick look around and thought this place looked really cool. Boston could wait. There was no time frame on the deal after all.

She blinks. "I haven't seen that much of it," Sinthia confesses. "I live in a military base. But Innsbruck is very pretty, at least what I've seen of it." The base is mostly underground; such are the precautions taken when one is a mad scientist, for lack of better description.

"What's Boston like? I've never been to America either," she says. "I was born in Berlin, but I don't remember much of that. I've lived different places in Germany, though." They, however, were not so pretty.

"I never actually got to Boston. But judging by the maps I have, it's like any large city in America." Henry shrugged and pointed to his backpack. He was lucky he'd had it with him when he turned up here.

"What about those other places in Germany then? Were they interesting?" Henry even looked impressed at her English despite not living in an English speaking country.

"They were military installations too," she says with a little shrug. "The trips between them were prettier. Inside the gates it's all machines and factories."

The backpack is interesting--it makes her wonder if he was planning on running away, in which case he probably got quite a lot farther than he'd intended. "Why were going to Boston?"

"Is it any better here? There seems to be a lot of machines here too."

He noticed her interest in the backpack and gave her a little unsure look at the mention of Boston. "I had to find my mom. It's complicated." He didn't really want to go into the whole curse issue with someone he'd just met. Especially another kid.

[abyssum_invocat]

"I don't mind machines," she says, shaking her head. "I'm around them every day. It's...strange here, though. I'm from 1944, and everyone else knows how the war ends for my country."

And they've told her about it. It's weird.

"Is she alive, or were you finding her grave?" Hey, this is not an illogical question for a child who has literally never heard her own mother's name, she is so rarely referenced.

There's an eyebrow raise at the year. Despite the curse, he does know what happened in some parts of history even if he had to go looking for it himself.

"She's alive. She just...wasn't expecting me." Henry finds it a perfectly logical question to and doesn't think any more of it.

"Your live with your father?" she asks, perfectly comfortable--oddly--with this conversation.

"I live with my dad, yeah." Note how he changed the wording slightly. "What about you? What are you parents like?"

[abyssum_invocat]

"My mother is dead. My father experimented on me," she says tonelessly. She's not yet fully grasped the severity of the experiments or she'd be angrier about this; as it is, Sinthia is unhappy, and wonders why, but is still uncomprehending of her larger purpose than the immediate war she came from.

Okay. Wrong topic. Everything suddenly went awkward so Henry changed it from parents to something else. "So...what's good on the menu here?"

"They make okay kasespaetzle," she murmurs. "it's like noodles and cheese. But everything comes out of the replicator. I don't think there's an actual kitchen."

"Replicator? What's that?" He decided it was better to ask about that then the dish that he couldn't pronounce. Besides, if he was sticking around then he needed to know how to feed himself.

[abyssum_invocat]

"The boxes in the wall. It's how they get food and drinks here." She raises a hand, not looking where she's pointing, but unerringly gesturing to said replication device.

Henry turned to look at the direction she was pointing and noticed the holes in the walls. "So how to they work? Do they take cards or cash?" He had both but little of the latter.

[abyssum_invocat]

"They don't take money," she says, shaking her head. "You just tell it what you want, and it gives it. I don't know yet what the real price is, but it's not money."

"All magic comes with a price." Henry muttered as he made his way over to the machine. He pondered it for a moment, then asked: "Granny's lasagne." The machine spoke back to him. "Request unknown. Please try again." Henry frowned and tried again with a slightly less specific request. "Lasagne."

[abyssum_invocat]

"It's not magic," she says. "It's close, but it's not really."

The lasagne appears, though it's not quite like Granny's, whatever hers is like. But it is good food.

"My dad wouldn't say so." Again he muttered, not wanting to bring up family again but it came out almost autopilot.

He picked up the food and tasted a little bit, unsure. But it seemed edible. "Not Granny's but not bad."

[abyssum_invocat]

"Is your dad here?" she asks, not meaning to sound cold but succeeding anyway. It's her default mode, unfortunately.

"Is your grandmother's specifically good?"

[goldencobra]

Henry shrugs. "Dunno." He doesn't sound too bothered. In time he would be but right now he's not.

"What are we talking about my grandmother for?" Despite the name, she wasn't related and it never occurred to the boy that that was the way it sounded.

[abyssum_invocat]

"...You asked for her lasagne," Sinthia says, sounding utterly nonplussed. "Specifically."

[goldencobra]

"Oh!" He laughed. "No she's not my grandmother. Everyone just calls her Granny because...well they just do." He eats a bit more then offers it to her. "Want some?"

"Is she someone's grandmother?" she asks, eyeing the food before she takes a bite.

It's good lasagne. Passable, most definitely.

"Yeah. I think she's Ruby's." He's not one hundred percent sure but it makes sense.

"Not bad huh? I wonder what else they can do?"
