(Going Home/Canon Update) Plot with me? Oh, but is there enough room on the internet for both of us?

Greetings, mortals.

It has come to my attention that some of you unthankful people wish to return to your home worlds. I can't possibly understand why, there's so much more to see here than you will ever experience in your mundane "apartments" and "Quiznos" and those horrible things you call "9 to 5's." Then again, I will never understand you humans.

But I digress. Since this matter is entirely out of my hands thanks to these "mods" who believe they know what's best (pah, infants), I have come to inform you that I have made the time in my busy and, let's face it, far more important schedule to appear among you in a few day's time. I do so love Ten Forward in the midst of a party, particularly one I have arranged. If you wish to return to your homes, you're going to have to make it interesting for me. And don't lower yourselves to buying me drinks, I have transcended such feeble mortal bribes!

I am also beyond the trappings of you who hide behind this imaginary "Fourth Wall" you so often speak of. Please. As if any wall, imagined or otherwise, could contain a personality of such magnificence. But, I suppose in the interests of being clear, this post is for the benefit of those of you who would rather a short and sweet canon updating process, without the chance at CR with me, and those of you who need to plot how a conversation with me and a trip home will go. To those of the former group, ha, you don't know what you're missing!

I can be reached through the comments below from now until I deign to join you in Ten Forward proper, so any questions or concerns or special requests can be left here and I will decide whether or not to acknowledge them. *Sigh* Fine, I'm being told I have to acknowledge them. You people are so uptight.

FAQ

Who Qualifies? Your character will need to be on the ship for at least three months before they can be sent home. This allows any brand new characters time to get used to the Enterprise, build CR, bond with other characters, and just generally have a desire to return to the Enterprise once finished with canon updates.

How does this affect Drops/Hiatuses? Q sending your characters home may be used as an IC excuse for where your character goes if you go on hiatus for an extended period, but it may not be used as an excuse for missing AC; you will be expected to meet every activity check, and the mods will be paying attention to how often you tag around, so don't abuse the ability to say your character was off home if you're not participating actively in the game.

What if I don't want my character to go home? If any character returning home for any period of time could be disastrous to their overall arc, Q reserves the right to stick out his tongue and say 'neener neener, no going home for you!' if necessary (should we call this Qock-blocking? No? Bad joke?). Basically, if you don't want your character to know about this, don't tag Q!

What about once my character is back home? Q can pull them back to the ship anytime you'd like, in the same way he did when you made your IC Intro. How much time your character spends home in game time =/= how much time passes in real time (IE: if you want to canon-update to a point several months ahead of their current canon point, they can leave the ship and be pulled back 5 minutes later as far as everyone on the Enterprise is concerned; don't abandon your character for long periods of time off the ship). 

How much time has passed in my character's world since they've been here?/Will they remember the Enterprise once they're home? We are actually happy to let this remain something each individual player can decide on. For many players, returning your characters to the precise moment they were "taken" will be the preferred option, but if you'd like to say some time has passed, that is completely allowed. How their memories are affected can be custom-decided by Q himself, once he knows what would best suit your character. Either option could allow for some really interesting character development, and we're not ones to quash that! If bringing knowledge of who and what your character has encountered aboard back with them could be disastrous, Q may remove any of those memories until they return. So your canon progression can continue unaffected by what's happened in the game, until your character returns and full memory is restored.

HI! All Henry needs to do is approach Q IC when he's in Ten Forward, which I was planning for today. Q will ask him why he wants to go home,but he might go pretty easy on him since he's just a kid.... then again he's kind of a jerk.

Q will want to come to some sort of deal with him, but the details of that can be fairly simple or they can be as outrageous as you like. Mainly the end result is just making sure Henry returns to the Enterprise and knows Q's in charge.

I just messaged the mod journal to ask about what my OOC plans were.

As for IC plans. Those sound pretty simple. Growing up with Mr Gold as his father, he knows a lot about deals. So this would be quite fun to play out. Henry'll basically do anything, within reason, to get home to his real dad and not to two fake dads he has on board.

And of course, I do want Henry to return and not be happy with Q because I'm mean with canon points.

How fortuitous!

If Henry tags into Q's post today, it can be assumed he's off the ship before the evening is out (evening here in the states, anyway, but in gametime as well), no matter how long the thread goes on for. If he's agreeable, that pretty much means Q won't have reason to deny him, though knowing Henry's father he may still mess around with him. Is anything specifically off-limits when it comes to Q doing that?

People not being happy with Q is the status quo! He will be delighted.

Q's welcome to do anything as far as I'm concerned. To Henry at least. Other characters, other muns. I'm not having Henry remember the Enterprise so his moving though the AU timeline will be only be hindered by the AU itself. Maybe next time.

Hmmmmm well Q's perception of time is bendy at best, he could always screw with Henry's for the lols. March them back a few days, and then send the kid backpacking the slipstream back to Storybrook?

Sounds good, and ah yes, thank you for letting me know! Q will keep all barbs on Henry, and be sure memories of the Enterprise conveniently evaporate after he's off the ship.

And you're welcome. Certain things just need to happen without interference in the AU I've worked out. But I wonder if I could do another move around the next AC period where he does keep his memories and see how they works with canon events. Might be fun to work out. Right?

I'm curious is it possible to use a canon update to possibly go from canon to AU, via returning home with memories intact and thus prevent a certain event from happening in canon, causing canon progression to shift AU?

Or would that end up too much of a headache inducing thing, you think?

I must admit I am tempted to subvert Neal's death, should he learn of it and how it's caused to come about, but of course this would be some time in the future if he manages to find out at all.

The mods so far agree that such an event could definitely be possible, but to switch Gold from a canon character to an AU would involve updating his app and sending it in to us. You don't have to wait for an open app period to do this, it can be e-mailed directly to us. This is just to keep everyone on the same page.

Philip's going to definitely want to return home to check up on his friends, but you couldn't keep him away from the Enterprise if you tried.

When he comes back though he's going to want to bring (a) his cat and (b) some extra power-up toys. The former probably isn't an issue but I assume I'd have to run the latter by the mods? They aren't a canon update thing, but things that just didn't come along when we first apped the deteggtives.

You are correct! Any additional items, including pets, should be added to Philip's inventory section on his app so the mods have a log of what he has on him during gameplay. Weapons, and I'm guessing this includes power-up toys!, should be run by the mods first. You can do this either by sending the mod account a PM or dropping us an e-mail, but if you know what Philip is going to bring back right now you can go ahead and list it here and I'll ferry the list to the other mods for approval.

Q should have an open log today, and it'll be open forever and a day for people to get set up IC for going home.

Great! I'll just list them here really quick:

- CAT. His name is Mick and he's 12 years old and grumpy and only purrs for Philip. He is just a normal cat with no special powers.

- The Lost Driver. This is similar to the Double Driver that lets them turn into Kamen Rider Double, except with a slot for only one Gaia Memory, so the transformation consists of only a single person. (Shotaro actually looks kind of hard-boiled for once, but Philip is still a huge dork forever.) Technically it's sort of a power-down since Double is more versatile, but he wants to have it on hand after what happened on Alemar III, just in case something comes up.

- Another one of their little detective gadgets, the Frog Pod. It's basically one of those tape recorders from the 1990s that only recorded a short clip, except it can also modify the clip to sound like a different voice (e.g. Philip records himself saying "I'm not hard-boiled at all" and makes it sound like Shotaro). Perfect for all sorts of shenanigans.

This is by no means an official consensus, but Q approves wholeheartedly (if he had one to begin with) of these gadgets, heh. I've fired the list off to all mods so I'll be back with an official answer as soon as possible! Is there anything else specifically you want to come up between Philip and Q, or just the usual mockery and ass-hattery (from Q I mean)?

Q no doubt will be a bit of a poop about ALL of them leaving him (woe, alas, the indignity!) at the same time, and may use that to mess with them a little, but it's definitely doable. And not because he feels ganged up on, mind! Perish the thought!

:D This is going to be great. I've pinged the others to chime in how we want to work this. We might, for example, need to wait until the next time Q pops in because I'm not ready to canon update Dylan yet (boy keeps enmeshing himself in plot, most excellently). But this is definitely on our cards!
