Happy Monday, Ten Forward! Our latest list of rooming assignments for October is here.

If we have overlooked anything, adjustments can continue to be made until the IC roommate mixer goes up. If you see any glaring errors or omissions, just let us know. Starfleet officers may be given VIP quarters, but they still get a roommate unless otherwise specified. Our master list of rooms and roommates is located here.

The witching hour is soon upon us, so what does that all mean for the Enterprise?

The Ghost Host

When hinges creak in doorless rooms, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls...
Whenever candle light flickers when the air is deathly still...
That is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight...
The Ghost Host

WHO: Anyone!
WHAT: Hallowe'en flavored spookiness sprinkled around the ship
WHERE: Shipwide, with standard opt-out options
WHEN: Oct 28th - Nov 3rd

Halloween is coming once more, and this time Q has decided to get into the... spirit... of the season. For a week surrounding Halloween, the Enterprise will be beset by what appears to be strange spirits trying to haunt her passengers. What does this entail? All the best things that a haunting can offer! Passengers can randomly encounter:
☆ Corridors with flickering lights, occasionally going out completely.
☆ Turbolifts stopping and starting randomly.
☆ Spooky noises being heard - creaking and whispering voices, but no one is around...
☆ Shadows flashing across the walls.
☆ Things moving with no one there to touch them.
☆ Catching something out of the corner of the eye, but still nothing is there...
☆ Familiar voices calling your character's name, leading them around the ship on a wild goose chase.
☆ Troubled dreams of departed loved ones, or waking to see ghoulish figures dragging chains around your character's quarters.
☆ Anything else of that nature that suits your fancy!

At the proverbial stroke of midnight, all the strange apparitions will vanish and a pile of candy will appear on the beds of any character who endured a haunting. You can't have a Halloween without your treats after your tricks, after all. Noboday can say Q isn't fair.

And if you don't want to be haunted, your character simply lucks out and misses all the strange happenings. It's a big ship and Q has to keep to a schedule, you know.

Dixon Hill Murder Mystery!

The place: San Francisco, California.
The year: 1941.
It was a dark and stormy night ...

WHO: Captain Picard, Hard-Boiled Detective Shotaro, 4 - 6 volunteers, plus absolutely anyone to make up an "audience"!
WHAT: A very special murder mystery set in the world of the "Dixon Hill" crime noir novels
WHERE: Holodeck 1
WHEN: Oct 31st

To most, Captain Jean-Luc Picard is an immaculate if stern officer, distant and hard to persuade into taking a little time off and socializing. What most don't know is that he has a weakness for a series of 20th century crime noir books written about the detective Dixon Hill. Well, that's all about to change, because Captain Picard is inviting you — yes, you! — to join him in a Dixon Hill adventure on the holodecks. Aided by fellow hard-boiled detective and enthusiast, Shotaro, it promises to be an evening of fun and relaxation in the smoke-in-a-shot-glass charm of 1940s San Francisco.

However...

Unbeknownst to anyone, the charm of the evening is about to be cut short when someone among the group ends up murdered! There has been a malfunction on the holodeck. The program goes off the reservation. The doors lock, and those who find themselves inside the holodeck can no longer get out, neither can those on the outside get in! What was once an evening of fun for your muse ends up becoming a harrowing mystery for all involved, locked in a room with a murderer! But who? How? And who is in on it? Is anyone safe? The questions just keep mounting.

Ideally your hosts OOC (Gabby and Lance) are looking for four to six volunteers to be "suspects" in the mystery. Much like in a dinner theater, you will be provided with character notes for your muses which include clues about the crime, motives to commit the crime, alibis, and so forth. We'll randomly pick volunteers by dice roll so that nobody knows who's guilty and who's not until it all unfolds IC. But that doesn't mean sign-ups stop there! We'll also need muses to be the witnesses, or "audience", unsuspecting bystanders who engage our four to six volunteers in conversation to draw out their secrets and put the clues together in order to solve the mystery. For this role, everyone is invited to join!

On Halloween (that's this Saturday, October 31st in the Eastern US), a party post will go up in the main comm setting the scene where all volunteers and witnesses can mingle. Top-levels will go up as things progress, starting with everyone's arrival and the murder, and ending with the big reveal of who the killer was. In game time, the mystery will last for several hours before characters are freed from the holodeck. OOC, we'll stagger this out over the week to give players enough time to thread and tag around each clue before we move on to the next one.

Expect twists and turns, dark humor, a little 1940s fun, and plenty of opportunities to thread with someone new. If you'd like to sign up to be a suspect or just a witness, click on the link below! Since we're only writing up profiles for 4-6 suspects (based on how many folks actually sign up), not everyone who signs up will get picked. However, we hope everyone will still come play along as witnesses! The success of this mystery is dependent on having lots of people to start up conversations and ask questions. :)

But Wait, That's Not All!

Since last year's Día de Muertos party was so popular, we'll be doing it again this year. Expect Q to throw a rousing bash with involuntary costume changes for your muses, music, games, food and drink! More on the festivities will be posted this weekend, and as with all our holiday-themed mini-events backtagging for those busy on the day of the festivities is always love! There will be plenty to celebrate, after all, because soon the Enterprise will be docking at her next planetary stop. More adventure awaits you in November!

Stay tuned! Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel...

Hello, everyone!

The IC New Passenger + Roommate Mixer is now up in the main comm! This post is considered OTA; new characters can meet their new roommates and explore their quarters, and old characters can meet the neighbours or open their quarters for visitors. If you have any questions or see any errors with the list, drop us a note in the comments!

If you missed the memo and you're confused about the New Passenger Orientation (IC Tour of the ship), this is for players wondering how much about the ship their characters would know. This is not for tagging into, and is only meant as a brief primer. If you need more IC info, you can poke us here and arrange for a thread.

Here are a few informational links again:
Some more details about the guest quarters/IC rules
The list of all Room Assignments and Decks
The original OOC announcement
Player Contact Post [locked to the comm]
and A detailed description and images of the quarters.

Have fun meeting people, old and new alike!

(And as an additional note: school will be up in the next couple of days, the responsible mod has been hit by the stress sledgehammer this week and apologises profusely!)

Guinan's Office

Hailing frequencies: open.

This is the OOC (Out Of Character) plotting community for the journal-based RPG [community profile] ten_fwd. Questions / comments / concerns / other OOC communication can be directed here.

We'll also be hosting apps, test drive memes, and more fun games and exercises here each month. Kick back with a Romulan Ale and come chat with us!
