What's that, you say?
There is a party post up in the main comm? You are correct, sir! The rooming assignments have now been announced in-game, so your character is free to react to it and interact with their new roommate. Because quite a few people thought it would be nice to have a party post where everyone could interact, that's precisely what we've done. All characters will be gathered in Ten Forward to hear the announcement from Worf, so everyone can interact, bump into other characters, and go off to explore their new rooms.
Rooms: Guest Quarters (which is where your characters will be staying) will consist of a shared living area, separate bedroom, and Jack-and-Jill bathroom; each room is customizable with different furniture styles and comforts, but come standard with your typical hotel-style furnishings (see image 1). There may be either 1 or 2 attached bedrooms, and per bedroom there will be either bunkbeds or a single-level bed, a small desk/chair, and storage lockers (see image 2). In the shared living area, there will be a sofa, table, and a replicator terminal (see image 3). These replicators can produce food, drink, and small items (clothing, instruments, combs and toothbrushes, etc.; nothing bigger than a breadbox). There will also be a PADD on each desk with the Prime Directive highlighted, but these devices can be used to access the ship's computers as well. The rooms do not have any windows, as they're located on the interior of the ship.
Memory Alpha has a more detailed overview of ship's quarters if needed; scroll down to the "Galaxy-class" section. It's between you and your roomie if you want separate rooms or to share bunkbeds; personally, I find the bunkbeds option hilarious, but I can understand how that may not fly with certain characters. Guest quarters usually allow for separate single-level bed rooms, while junior crew quarters typically have the bunkbeds, but I figured we could have a little fun with things. If you've just put in your app for June, don't worry! We'll continue assigning roommates and rooms for all new players after they're approved. Your character's first few nights aboard will be spent in a quarantine area, until the doctors aboard can clear you of any nasty diseases.
Rules: Also mentioned in the party post are a few basic rules for conduct while aboard. I'll repeat these here, for posterity:
1) No discharge of weapons aboard the
Enterprise.
2) No physical assault, mind-tampering, or exerting undue influence on other guests or crew.
3) No tampering with operational procedures of the ship.
4) No stealing technology from the ship for personal use or relocation to any other world.
5) No interruption of official areas of the ship (bridge, transporter room, engineering, etc.) without proper authorization, also no invasion of privacy in other guests' or crew quarters.
6) Review the Prime Directive (which, at its essence, states "No starship may interfere with the normal development of any alien life or society.").
The rules will no doubt change and grow as gameplay continues, but we wanted there to be a basic IC set of laws for all to follow. Naturally, since this is a game, these are all subject to plotting things out with your fellow partner and getting mod clearance for bending the rules for a plot. But for every-day interaction on-board, this is what security will hold you to!
Now, feel free to use this post to ask questions and sync up with the players of your new roommate. If we've forgotten anything, let us know and we'll add it. Above all else, have fun! The party post will remain open through the entire weekend, and on into however long it takes for everyone to meet & greet. :)
