Hello, everyone!

The IC New Passenger + Roommate Mixer is now up in the main comm! This post is considered OTA; new characters can meet their new roommates and explore their quarters, and old characters can meet the neighbours or open their quarters for visitors. If you have any questions or see any errors with the list, drop us a note in the comments!

If you missed the memo and you're confused about the New Passenger Orientation (IC Tour of the ship), this is for players wondering how much about the ship their characters would know. This is not for tagging into, and is only meant as a brief primer. If you need more IC info, you can poke us here and arrange for a thread.

Here are a few informational links again:
Some more details about the guest quarters/IC rules
The list of all Room Assignments and Decks
The original OOC announcement
Player Contact Post [locked to the comm]
and A detailed description and images of the quarters.

Have fun meeting people, old and new alike!

(And as an additional note: school will be up in the next couple of days, the responsible mod has been hit by the stress sledgehammer this week and apologises profusely!)

The witching hour is soon upon us, so what does that all mean for the Enterprise?

The Ghost Host

When hinges creak in doorless rooms, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls...
Whenever candle light flickers when the air is deathly still...
That is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight...
The Ghost Host

WHO: Anyone!
WHAT: Hallowe'en flavored spookiness sprinkled around the ship
WHERE: Shipwide, with standard opt-out options
WHEN: Oct 28th - Nov 3rd

Halloween is coming once more, and this time Q has decided to get into the... spirit... of the season. For a week surrounding Halloween, the Enterprise will be beset by what appears to be strange spirits trying to haunt her passengers. What does this entail? All the best things that a haunting can offer! Passengers can randomly encounter:
☆ Corridors with flickering lights, occasionally going out completely.
☆ Turbolifts stopping and starting randomly.
☆ Spooky noises being heard - creaking and whispering voices, but no one is around...
☆ Shadows flashing across the walls.
☆ Things moving with no one there to touch them.
☆ Catching something out of the corner of the eye, but still nothing is there...
☆ Familiar voices calling your character's name, leading them around the ship on a wild goose chase.
☆ Troubled dreams of departed loved ones, or waking to see ghoulish figures dragging chains around your character's quarters.
☆ Anything else of that nature that suits your fancy!

At the proverbial stroke of midnight, all the strange apparitions will vanish and a pile of candy will appear on the beds of any character who endured a haunting. You can't have a Halloween without your treats after your tricks, after all. Noboday can say Q isn't fair.

And if you don't want to be haunted, your character simply lucks out and misses all the strange happenings. It's a big ship and Q has to keep to a schedule, you know.

Dixon Hill Murder Mystery!

The place: San Francisco, California.
The year: 1941.
It was a dark and stormy night ...

WHO: Captain Picard, Hard-Boiled Detective Shotaro, 4 - 6 volunteers, plus absolutely anyone to make up an "audience"!
WHAT: A very special murder mystery set in the world of the "Dixon Hill" crime noir novels
WHERE: Holodeck 1
WHEN: Oct 31st

To most, Captain Jean-Luc Picard is an immaculate if stern officer, distant and hard to persuade into taking a little time off and socializing. What most don't know is that he has a weakness for a series of 20th century crime noir books written about the detective Dixon Hill. Well, that's all about to change, because Captain Picard is inviting you — yes, you! — to join him in a Dixon Hill adventure on the holodecks. Aided by fellow hard-boiled detective and enthusiast, Shotaro, it promises to be an evening of fun and relaxation in the smoke-in-a-shot-glass charm of 1940s San Francisco.

However...

Unbeknownst to anyone, the charm of the evening is about to be cut short when someone among the group ends up murdered! There has been a malfunction on the holodeck. The program goes off the reservation. The doors lock, and those who find themselves inside the holodeck can no longer get out, neither can those on the outside get in! What was once an evening of fun for your muse ends up becoming a harrowing mystery for all involved, locked in a room with a murderer! But who? How? And who is in on it? Is anyone safe? The questions just keep mounting.

Ideally your hosts OOC (Gabby and Lance) are looking for four to six volunteers to be "suspects" in the mystery. Much like in a dinner theater, you will be provided with character notes for your muses which include clues about the crime, motives to commit the crime, alibis, and so forth. We'll randomly pick volunteers by dice roll so that nobody knows who's guilty and who's not until it all unfolds IC. But that doesn't mean sign-ups stop there! We'll also need muses to be the witnesses, or "audience", unsuspecting bystanders who engage our four to six volunteers in conversation to draw out their secrets and put the clues together in order to solve the mystery. For this role, everyone is invited to join!

On Halloween (that's this Saturday, October 31st in the Eastern US), a party post will go up in the main comm setting the scene where all volunteers and witnesses can mingle. Top-levels will go up as things progress, starting with everyone's arrival and the murder, and ending with the big reveal of who the killer was. In game time, the mystery will last for several hours before characters are freed from the holodeck. OOC, we'll stagger this out over the week to give players enough time to thread and tag around each clue before we move on to the next one.

Expect twists and turns, dark humor, a little 1940s fun, and plenty of opportunities to thread with someone new. If you'd like to sign up to be a suspect or just a witness, click on the link below! Since we're only writing up profiles for 4-6 suspects (based on how many folks actually sign up), not everyone who signs up will get picked. However, we hope everyone will still come play along as witnesses! The success of this mystery is dependent on having lots of people to start up conversations and ask questions. :)

>> SIGN-UP OR RSVP
>> QUESTIONS

But Wait, That's Not All!

Since last year's Día de Muertos party was so popular, we'll be doing it again this year. Expect Q to throw a rousing bash with involuntary costume changes for your muses, music, games, food and drink! More on the festivities will be posted this weekend, and as with all our holiday-themed mini-events backtagging for those busy on the day of the festivities is always love! There will be plenty to celebrate, after all, because soon the Enterprise will be docking at her next planetary stop. More adventure awaits you in November!

Stay tuned! Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel...

Happy Monday, Ten Forward! Our latest list of rooming assignments for October is here.

If we have overlooked anything, adjustments can continue to be made until the IC roommate mixer goes up. If you see any glaring errors or omissions, just let us know. Starfleet officers may be given VIP quarters, but they still get a roommate unless otherwise specified. Our master list of rooms and roommates is located here.

Our latest Sickbay log is now up and open for business. This month we have Dr. Beverly Crusher as CMO, and she will be assisted by her medical team of: Dr. Simon Tam, Dr. Julian Bashir, Trever Daly, Trance Gemini, Magneto and Merlin, with possible appearances from others.

If you're new to the game, it's standard Enterprise procedure to quarantine those who have winked onto the ship until they can be checked for any terrible space diseases. Your character will be required to visit Sickbay for a standard check-up and a vaccine if necessary. Tagging in is optional and can be done at your leisure; if you prefer to handwave your character getting the all-clear from the docs, that is allowed. If you are tagging in, specify the name of the doctor you want in the subject line of your tag, and they'll tag you as soon as they're available. If you haven't made your IC Intro yet and would prefer to do that first, please feel free to backtag on the Sickbay log whenever it is convenient for you. It will remain open as long as there is a need for it. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page.

Once your character has been cleared medically, they'll be released from quarantine, assigned permanent rooms, and allowed to move more freely around the ship. Restricted areas are, of course, still off-limits (such as the bridge, engine rooms, conference rooms, etc). Everyone passes through Sickbay once they arrive. Rooming assignments will be posted tomorrow, and the IC Rooming Mixer will go up tomorrow (or perhaps the day after since this post went up a little late).

Speaking of rooms! Our list of rooming assignments for October is going up shortly. All new applicants from this period will be assigned to a room with a roommate, unless your character has special considerations (such as an in-game significant other or family member they need to be roomed with, or a temperament/physiology that requires them to room alone).

This month's random hat includes: )

Our IC classes aboard the Enterprise are now open for tagging! For more information, check out the OOC announcement/sign-ups.

☆ An IC school post will go up once monthly, and can be tagged & backtagged into until the next one goes live!
☆ If you are handwaving attending a class or have special arrangements with one of the teachers, you can drop the players a line in the sign-ups post.
☆ When posting in as a teacher, please put the name of your class/course in the subject line of your tag, that way it will be easy for players to find!
☆ There are Teachers Lounge and Student Common Room top-levels for characters to mingle outside the classroom setting; if there is need for other top-levels outside the classroom (ie: a Detention area, Nurses area, Clubs/After-School Activities, etc.) leave us a suggestion here and we'll add it!

If you have any other questions or suggestions, let us know. Have fun, everyone! :D

Talk Like a Pirate Day!

2015-Sep-19, Saturday 08:44 pm

[personal profile] ten_fwd_mods
Q has heard about an old Earth day that was dedicated entirely to fun, whimsy, and silliness, and since everyone on the Enterprise clearly needs some more whimsy in their lives, he's chosen to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

And when Q celebrates, the Enterprise celebrates with him.

The effects of the day will be random. If you don't want your character to participate, no problem! Simply assume the random effects didn't strike!

What's Q up to? Any or all of the following may happen to your character:

  • Costume changes Characters may suddenly find themselves possessed of pirate paraphernalia and costumes such as peg-legs, hats, eye patches, or frock coats. And when Q decides you're wearing something, you usually wind up wearing it for the duration ...

  • Drink up, me hearties! For a limited time only, any synthehol served on the ship will be turned into rum. And yes, it will be alcoholic rum. Just don't get drunk and plan a mutiny or there will be consequences ...

  • Pieces of eight! What's a pirate without his parrot? Q will be materializing talking parrots at random locations around the ship. Your quarters? Next to you in the turbolift? In the middle of Ten Forward? Awk, pieces of eight! These birds can be heard spouting phrases of pirate lingo, interjecting into your characters' threads, and generally being loud and distracting.

And colorful. Did we mention colorful? They're macaws, they're colorful.

  • Heave away, you'll hear me sing Various places around the ship, particularly the lounge, will have their speakers hijacked to play traditional sea shanties. Some ideas of the sorts of shanties that might be playing are here and here.

  • Talk Like a Pirate Day will run for two days IC, on September 19-20. You are welcome to backdate posts and, as always, backtagging is welcome.

Arrr me mateys! Any questions? Yer knows where ter ask!

Happy Friday, everyone!

We have two things for you! Reserves are OPEN for the October application period. Reserves will remain open until 11:59pm EST on Sepetmber 30th, just prior to apps opening.

For September applicants: the latest list of rooming assignments for September is going up shortly. All new characters are assigned a room and a roommate by random draw. This means if you have special requirements or considerations, you should leave a request in a comment HERE with your character journal. (Some examples would be: if your character has a spouse or SO they would prefer to be roomed with; your character is unable to share quarters because of their physiology/temperament; and the like. If you're bringing in a high-ranking Starfleet officer, you may be assigned VIP quarters. IC, the Enterprise crew would be sure any important officers would have the best rooms, but OOC we don't want you to miss out on building CR with another character, so all officers will automatically be treated the same as other characters unless you tell us otherwise.)

What Happened in August?

August started out as a relatively quiet month. Admittedly, a squirt gun fight involving Trever and Kale broke out at the beginning of the month. Annie and Finnick started discussing their depression and other problems that came from having to live through the Hunger Games with their friends. Meanwhile, Cat acted as any good cat would when they discover a rival in their territory, by marking everything. Perhaps not in the typical way, but still in perfect cat style. Overall, things were calm as they had a break from Q's crazy shenanigans. Ro Laren however did try to get her commission back, which caused quite the stir given she's currently twelve.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly for once... at least until the Klingons attacked! They have come looking for General Chang himself, and they don't care who gets in their way. Fortunately, the not-so-good General has an ace up his sleeve...

Before all of this excitement happened, some interesting new people showed up on the Enterprise. One of the most famous might be Captain Kirk himself! Others include: Tony Stark; the rather traumatized cyborg DJ, who despite Natasha trying to be helpful got shot by security; yet another Doctor, this one the grumpy Twelve; Mary McGarrett, Steve's little sister; Jacob Keyes, and some familiar and some old faces also appeared - Elim Garak, and poor Quark, who is not happy with it. To make things interesting, a Big Daddy from Rapture showed up soon thereafter.

Other things that happened included some bonding between Grace Williams and Steve McGarrett, Fatima Merali working out, and Hugh Cambridge had nightmares, for which he tried to find solace by turning to dance and drink.

But hey, that's not all! If you'd like to share the shenanigans your characters got up to in August, link us to your posts and threads! Go ahead and toot your own horn, that CR really was awesome and we all want to know about it. :)

[ Visit the Game Calendar ]

September 5th: The LAST DAY of our Klingon Invasion Event
September 13th: The Enterprise docks at Starbase 375 for repairs and supplies, and remains for two weeks
September 19th: It's Talk Like a Pirate Day, mateys! Yarr!
September 28th: Classes begin on the Enterprise

After a harrying experience for many of the passengers, the Klingon invasion abates and the invading enemies are sent packing. That doesn't mean all is well on the Enterprise. Many will be alarmed, even angry that their new home has been under attack. Captain Picard and the rest of his crew will need to do everything in their power to put their passengers' minds at ease.

Because the kerfuffle caused some damage to the ship, the Enterprise will make its way to Starbase 375 for repairs and recalibration, and while they are there they will pick up some needed supplies. While the ship is being worked on, passengers are invited to disembark and explore the space station, do some shopping, and learn more about this strange new universe they find themselves in. There will be some new and interesting people on the Starbase, which means the Enterprise may leave with more than they arrived with...

While the ship is docked, Q is bored bored bored. This is no fun! The Klingons, now they were fun! But everyone is so mopey and whiny and off on their own adventures. That will never do! Ah-ha! A brilliant idea descends! He's heard tell of an ancient, almost forgotten, Earth holiday that celebrates the titillating vernacular of old seafaring racketeers. Wouldn't it just be a gas to hear Picard's prim and proper dialog reduced to the guttural charm of an old sea dog? And why stop it there?
☆ Peg legs? Eye patches? Jaunty hats? Why not!
☆ All synthehol will be turned into rum! (Syntheholic or not? not sure! oh lighten up, it's not like anyone's flying this ship.)
☆ A number of brightly colored and unusually-spoken parrots will appear in random places around the ship and in character's threads. Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!
☆ Sea shanties will be heard playing at random! (There might even be one or two characters around who can teach you the words, if you ask nicely...)

Q's fun will only last for the day, but the memories? Oh, those will last for a lifetime, mon capitaine.

At the end of the month, the Enterprise will leave Starbase 375 with their booty — er, their supplies and curiosities — and move on in their journey through space. Back to some semblance of normal, the schools aboard the ship will open their doors to new students of all age levels and educational backgrounds. Been dying for a good primer on Warp Drive Theory? Maybe just eager to take a poetry class? Now's your chance.

**We will post event reminders a few days before each scheduled plot. There will be a sign-ups sheet for classes where players can volunteer to teach as well as attend courses on the Enterprise. Additional small plots may crop up throughout the month for extra fun in one of our new settings.**

New Holodeck Programs:
The holodecks are neat, but what can we do with them? one might ask. Every month we'll provide 3 new holodeck scenarios for players to use if they're stuck for ideas. This month's programs are:

Treasure Island (book): In honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day, don't just reread, relive the classic adventure novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The tale of the adventures, misfortune, and treasure hunting of the crew of the Hispaniola has inspired tales of derring-do, treachery, and treasure ever since it was first written. Will your character see through the mutineers’ plot and save the day? Or will they usurp Long John Silver and take control of the treasure hunt? Be part of a classic! [permanently added to library]

Beach bonfire: Caribbean skies, good food, good music, and a spectacular sunset over the ocean are yours to enjoy should you choose the Bahamas Beach Bonfire holodeck program. Enjoy party music, dancing, and the best of replicated food available in this tropical paradise setting. Take part in a limbo competition (or watch and laugh) or try your hand at fire dancing (the safety failsafes are on, so you don't need to worry about getting hurt!) Or maybe you just want to sit by the fireside and watch the night pass by, or take an evening swim. The night is your oyster. [permanently added to library]

Hobbiton: It wouldn't be September without September 22, known by some as Hobbit Day. Your holodeck program has been chosen to fit this remarkable total day. Wander in the footsteps of Sam, Frodo, and Bilbo as you take in the sights of Hobbiton. Stop by the Green Dragon Inn for a drink with the locals, explore Bagshot Row and see Gaffer Gamgee's garden, or try your hand at treasure hunting in the tunnels of Bag End. If you're lucky, you might even wander into a long-expected party. [permanently added to library]

At this time, we're also shuffling up the rooms for characters who have lost a roommate due to a character drop or need a reassignment for any other reason. We'll do this approximately quarterly as new characters shuffle in and old ones shuffle out. If you would like to switch up your rooming situation, this post is your chance to drop us a line and let us know. We'll either put your character into the random hat and pair them up with a new roomie by dice roll, or if you have a special consideration like those listed above we'll take them into account.

Shuffling is totally optional, so if you don't make a request to do so then you will stay right where you are, no muss no fuss. To reduce confusion, below the cut is a list of everyone* who's being assigned a roommate this period because they are NEW or because of a DROP. If your character isn't on the list and you think they should be, just let us know!

Hey hey, Ten Forward!

So some of you may have seen Geordi's latest post in the main comm and are now thinking to yourselves, "Intriguing! Why, I do say! Whatever could this mean, good chap?" (Just be Victorian for this illustration, trust me.) WELL, some of you may recall a certain plot-type personal log posted before the kid plot started, where Picard dispatched his chiefs of staff to start getting things a-rollin' on the ship (No? Never fear! Here is a link to the PL in question!)

What this means for you guys: As schools, jobs, monthly plots, etc. start rolling IC, different crewmen will be heading up different tasks. Geordi is going to get the ball rolling for scientists and engineers interested in working with the Enterprise to develop new tech and test theories that will be used in a "Stop Q and Get The People Who Want to Go Home, Home!" plot arc. So if you have a scientist or engineer who may be interested in this sort of CR, now's the time to make friends with Geordi IC and get your foot in the door! If you're busy and can't right now, never fear. There will be more info posted OOC as things start happening where players can jump in, and this definitely won't be the last time Geordi's seen in the comm where characters can jump in. Now that he has passing AC, ahem. Think of this as the first post of many where you can establish connections you can build on later as plots roll out.

If you've got questions, suggestions, concerns, queries, etc etc, comment with them here or feel free to drop me a line in Geordi's inbox (or you can find me on Plurk @ [plurk.com profile] gabbynormal or AIM @ gabby.normal). I look forward to starting some mischief with all of you soon! Indubitably, fine sir. Indubitably.

Note: So I did not anticipate I'd get as many tag-ins on Guinan's last log as I did, which means if Geordi's post gets crazy busy I may end up capping new tags just so I can fairly keep up with both characters. Thank you all for making me feel so loved! If I do close Geordi's post, I'll be sure to update and let you know, and like I said he'll be back soon, so don't worry. Thanks!

If you have any questions or see any errors with the list, drop us a note in the comments!

A few changes this month: As per our new updates for the game, we have now linked in a New Passenger Orientation (IC Tour of the ship), for players wondering how much about the ship their characters would know. This is not for tagging into, and is only meant as a brief primer. If you need more IC info, you can poke us here and arrange for a thread. We have also included last month's assignments due to there being no June Mixer. This does not mean your characters have been roomless for a month! You can backdate your threads to the appropriate arrival date or just use this as a chance to show how they're "settling in". Again, we apologize for any inconvenience.

Our latest Sickbay log is now up and open for business. This month we have Dr. Julian Bashir taking over as temporary CMO*, and he will be assisted by his medical team of: Dr. Carson Beckett, Todd the Wraith, Sam Wilson, Trance Gemini, and maybe one or two others.

The IC Rooming Mixer will go up in a day or two.

If you have any questions, hit us up in the comments below!

* Dr. Bashir is taking over for Dr. Beverly Crusher, who was previously played as an NPC. Since she has been apped as a PC, both player and pup need a little time to settle in before assuming responsibilities as CMO. Therefore, Bashir is the man to see if you have any questions or problems IC. Everything else can, as always, be directed to us mods by leaving a comment! :)

For those of you who aren't June and July apps, remember that AC closes tonight at 11:59 pm EDT (GMT -4).

Happy Friday, Ten Forward! Our latest list of rooming assignments for July is going up shortly. All new applicants from this period will be assigned to a room with a roommate, unless your character has special considerations (such as an in-game significant other or family member they need to be roomed with, or a temperament/physiology that requires them to room alone).

This month's random hat includes: )

We'll have a finalized list posted soon, but if we have overlooked anything, adjustments can continue to be made until the IC roommate mixer goes up. This mixer will also include June apps. If you see any glaring errors or omissions, just let us know. Starfleet officers may be given VIP quarters, but they still get a roommate unless otherwise specified. Our master list of rooms and roommates is located here.

Hi all!

So, for various reasons, partly to do with how late last month's apps got processed and partly due to needing a minor rewrite to add some new content, the rooming mixer didn't get posted last month before this month's apps were processed.

We're going to post a combined log, either on Sunday as usual or slightly before, which BOTH June and July applicants can use, with the assumption that the threads for June applicants are slightly backdated.

Sorry for this! *sheepish*
